The Deity of Christ, 1of3

~ 7 Aspects of His Deity ~

His Deity Was Proclaimed by the Father ~ “So all this was done that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the Lord through the prophet, saying: ‘Behold, the virgin shall be with child, and bear a Son, and they shall call His name Immanuel,’ which is translated, ‘God with us’” (Matthew 1:22-23). “In the beginning was the Word [Jesus Christ], and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God” (John 1:1-2).

His Deity Was Claimed by the Son Himself ~ Jesus said, “For the Father loves the Son, and shows Him all things that He Himself does; and He will show Him greater works than these, that you may marvel. For as the Father raises the dead and gives life to them, even so the Son gives life to whom He will. For the Father judges no one, but has committed all judgment to the Son, that all should honor the Son just as they honor the Father. He who does not honor the Son does not honor the Father who sent Him” (John 5:20-23).  Jesus also said, “I and My Father are one” (John 10:30).  Again, we read the words of Jesus Christ, “‘I am the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End,’ says the Lord, ‘who is and who was and who is to come, the Almighty’” (Revelation 1:8).

His Deity Was Witnessed by the Spirit of God ~ “But to the Son He says: ‘Your throne, O God, is forever and ever; a scepter of righteousness is the scepter of Your kingdom. You have loved righteousness and hated lawlessness; therefore God, Your God, has anointed You with the oil of gladness more than Your companions’” (Hebrews 1:8-9). “But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts, and always be ready to give a defense to everyone who asks you a reason for the hope that is in you, with meekness and fear” (1 Peter 3:15).

His Deity Was Acknowledged by Angels ~ “But when He again brings the firstborn into the world, He says:Let all the angels of God worship Him.’ And of the angels He says:Who makes His angels spirits and His ministers a flame of fire’” (Hebrews 1:6-7). Then I looked, and I heard the voice of many angels around the throne, the living creatures, and the elders; and the number of them was ten thousand times ten thousand, and thousands of thousands, saying with a loud voice:Worthy is the Lamb who was slain to receive power and riches and wisdom, and strength and honor and glory and blessing!’” (Revelation 5:11-12).

His Deity Was Confessed by Saints ~ “And Thomas answered and said to Him, ‘My Lord and my God!’” (John 20:28).  I tell the truth in Christ, I am not lying, my conscience also bearing me witness in the Holy Spirit, … Christ came, who is over all, the eternally blessed God. Amen” (Romans 9:1-5).

His Deity Was Feared by Demons ~ “And he [the demon in the Gadarene man] cried out with a loud voice and said, ‘What have I to do with You, Jesus, Son of the Most High God? I implore You by God that You do not torment me’” (Mark 5:7).  And in another account of this event we read, “When he saw Jesus, he cried out, fell down before Him, and with a loud voice said, ‘What have I to do with You, Jesus, Son of the Most High God? I beg You, do not torment me!’” (Luke 8:28).You believe that there is one God. You do well. Even the demons believe—and tremble!” (James 2:19).

His Deity Was Manifested by His Works ~ “When the men had come to Jesus, they said, ‘John the Baptist has sent us to You, saying, “Are You the Coming One, or do we look for another?”’ And that very hour He cured many of infirmities, afflictions, and evil spirits; and to many blind He gave sight. Jesus answered and said to them, ‘Go and tell John the things you have seen and heard: that the blind see, the lame walk, the lepers are cleansed, the deaf hear, the dead are raised, the poor have the gospel preached to them. And blessed is he who is not offended because of Me’” (Luke 7:20-23).  Jesus said, “But I have a greater witness than John's; for the works which the Father has given Me to finish—the very works that I do—bear witness of Me, that the Father has sent Me” (John 5:36).

the key question: “Who do you say that I am?” (Matthew 16:15). This is the most important question you will ever answer. If you do not answer it, or answer it incorrectly, you have made the biggest mistake anyone can make!
