Is That In The Bible? 6

~ “Moderation In All Things” ~

This posting is a response to a blog entitled “7 Things You Won’t Find in the Bible… I Dare You to Look.” I am taking that challenge! The sixth listed phrase was “Moderation in all things.” I would agree that the phrase is not found in our English Bible—but what about the principle behind the phrase?

Words by themselves are meaningless—it is only when we attach meaning to the words that communication occurs. The principle behind this phrase can be found in the Bible, but the phrase can be heresy when different meanings are behind the words and the phrase.

Moderation in all things  ~  The author of that piece supported his position by quoting the following verse. “And everyone who competes for the prize is temperate in all things. Now they do it to obtain a perishable crown, but we for an imperishable crown” (1 Corinthians 9:25). This verse says “temperate (or moderate) in all things.” Perhaps nothing more needs to be said!

In summary “moderation in all things” is good advice if taken in moderation!
