Eternal Security, 11of15

~ The Sheltering Love of God Protects The Believer ~

The doctrine of “eternal security” (sometimes described as “once saved—always saved”) is widely accepted with Christianity.  There are however some who deny this important teaching of Scripture—by pulling verses out of their context to make them say something other than intended.  In this series we look at what the Word of God has to say about the subject.  “Him who is able to keep you from stumbling, and to present you faultless before the presence of His glory with exceeding joy” (Jude 24).

Key Passage  ~  Jesus prayed to His Father about believers:  I pray for them.  I do not pray for the world but for those whom You have given Me, for they are Yours.  And all Mine are Yours, and Yours are Mine, and I am glorified in them.  Now I am no longer in the world, but these are in the world, and I come to You.  Holy Father, keep through Your name those whom You have given Me, that they may be One as We are.  While I was with them in the world, I kept them in Your name.  Those whom You gave Me I have kept; and none of them is lost except the son of perdition, that the Scripture might be fulfilled” (John 17:9-12).

Our Savior’s Heart  ~  Jesus Christ had and has a deep compassionate for His followers.  While in the world He protected His own.  Now the Father protects us.  This intercessory prayer of our Savior displays His tenderness toward His own people.  Surely He shall deliver you from the snare of the fowler and from the perilous pestilence.  He shall cover you with His feathers, and under His wings you shall take refuge; His truth shall be your shield and buckler” (Psalm 91:3-4).  The image presented here is of a hen protecting its chicks.

Our Need Is Supplied  ~  It is clear from Scripture—beginning with The Fall of Man in the Garden of Eden—that we cannot successfully protect ourselves.  But as His children we are divinely protected and sheltered from the hostile culture and world in which we live and can have peace regarding of the storms around us.  You will keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on You, because he trusts in You” (Isaiah 26:3).

Summary  ~  God is the divine protector and guardian of all who truly know His Son as their personal savior.
