Jesus Came To…, 6

~ Jesus Christ Came To Bring Division ~

Passage  ~  Do you suppose that I came to give peace on earth?  I tell you, not at all, but rather division.  For from now on five in one house will be divided: three against two, and two against three.  Father will be divided against son and son against father, mother against daughter and daughter against mother, mother-in-law against her daughter-in-law and daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law” (Luke 12:51-53).

Significance  ~  When a person becomes a believer they are a new person.  Sometimes that new person is not accepted in their circle of contacts.

Comment  ~  Many times when a person becomes a follower of Jesus Christ there are serious consequences.  For example, even in the United States some believers are cut-off from their families of different faiths.  Many times there are lesser, yet very significant, consequences between family members.

“What fellowship has righteousness with lawlessness?  And what communion has light with darkness?  And what accord has Christ with Belial?  Or what part has a believer with an unbeliever?” (2 Corinthians 6:14b-15).  It is up to the believer to strive for peace with all—but the reality is that it takes two, or more, to have fellowship sometimes peace is just not possible.

the key question:  “Who do you say that I am?” (Matthew 16:15).  This is the most important question you will ever answer.  If you do not answer it, or answer it incorrectly, you have made the biggest mistake anyone can make!
