Temporary Or Eternal Fool?

~ Death Comes To All: The Wise & The Foolish ~

King David lamented over the death of Abner who had pledged to help make him king over all Israel.  Abner had fallen into a trap set by his enemies and though he could have escaped he was murdered and David lamented, saying, “Should Abner die as a fool dies?”

“And the king sang a lament over Abner and said: ‘Should Abner die as a fool dies?  Your hands were not bound nor your feet put into fetters; as a man falls before wicked men, so you fell.’  Then all the people wept over him again” (2 Samuel 3:33-34).

Jim Elliot, a martyred missionary wrote: “He is no fool who gives what he cannot keep to gain what he cannot lose.”  Jim gave his life in 1956 as a missionary to a then unreached tribe.  But Jim has eternal life with God! 

Jesus Christ said, “When He had called the people to Himself, with His disciples also, He said to them, ‘Whoever desires to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow Me.  For whoever desires to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for My sake and the gospel’s will save it.  For what will it profit a man if he gains the whole world, and loses his own soul?  Or what will a man give in exchange for his soul?  For whoever is ashamed of Me and My words in this adulterous and sinful generation, of him the Son of Man also will be ashamed when He comes in the glory of His Father with the holy angels’” (Mark 8:34-38).

What about you?  If you died today by an unexpected event (auto accident, heart attack, etc.) where would you spend eternity?  Are you sure?
