God Attribute, 180

~ Revealed ~

This Series ~ This series of posts looks at some of the many attributes of God.  Generally, we move in alphabetical order.

Introduction ~ God has revealed Himself to mankind, First God revealed Himself as Creator by General Revelation – His creation all around us.

Second, God has revealed Himself to us by Special Revelation – the Word of God, the Biblical record of His interaction with individuals, and the testimony of millions.

God spoke to Adam and Eve (Genesis 3:8-19), to Abraham (Genesis 12, 13, 15, 17), and to Moses (Exodus 3). Other examples include Jonah speaking to the Ninevites, Gabriel speaking to Mary (Luke 1:26-38) and Zacharias (Luke 1:8-20), and Simeon hearing from the Holy Spirit that He would not die.

And perhaps most importantly for us is the Word of God (The Holy Bible) available in many printed and digital forms.

Scripture (General Revelation) ~ “For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who suppress the truth in unrighteousness, because what may be known of God is manifest in them, for God has shown it to them. For since the creation of the world His invisible attributes are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even His eternal power and Godhead, so that they are without excuse” (Romans 1:18-20).

Scripture (Special Revelation) ~ “For the Word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart. And there is no creature hidden from His sight, but all things are naked and open to the eyes of Him to whom we must give account” (Hebrews 4:12-13).

Comment ~ Consider the following (courtesy of Just Give Me Jesus).

If Adam knew God as a beloved Father,
if Eve knew Him as the original Homemaker,
if Noah knew Him as the Refuge from the storm,
if Abraham knew Him as a Friend,
if Moses knew Him as the Redeemer,
if Rahab knew Him as the gracious Savior,
if David knew Him as his Shepherd,
if Elijah knew Him as the Almighty,
if Daniel knew Him as the Lion Tamer,
if Mary Magdalene knew Him as the Bondage Breaker,

if Martha knew Him as the Promise Keeper,
if Lazarus knew Him as the Resurrection and the Life,

if Bartimaeus knew Him as the Light of the World,
if John knew Him as the glorious King upon the throne,
then surely you and I can know Him too!

Questions ~ Do you know Jesus as your personal Savior? If not, why not?

4 Women

~ Four Women in the Book of Revelation ~

Jezebel (Thyatira—the church in the dark ages)  ~  We read our Lord’s words concerning the corrupt church:  “And to the angel of the church in Thyatira write, ‘These things says the Son of God, who has eyes like a flame of fire, and His feet like fine brass:  I know your works, love, service, faith, and your patience; and as for your works, the last are more than the first.  Nevertheless I have a few things against you, because you allow that woman Jezebel, who calls herself a prophetess, to teach and seduce My servants to commit sexual immorality and eat things sacrificed to idols.  And I gave her time to repent of her sexual immorality, and she did not repent.  Indeed I will cast her into a sickbed, and those who commit adultery with her into great tribulation, unless they repent of their deeds.  I will kill her children with death, and all the churches shall know that I am He who searches the minds and hearts.  And I will give to each one of you according to your works.  Now to you I say, and to the rest in Thyatira, as many as do not have this doctrine, who have not known the depths of Satan, as they say, I will put on you no other burden.  But hold fast what you have till I come.  And he who overcomes, and keeps My works until the end, to him I will give power over the nations — “He shall rule them with a rod of iron; they shall be dashed to pieces like the potter's vessels” — as I also have received from My Father; and I will give him the morning star” (Revelation 2:18-28).  The church is feminine—Christ’s bride.  Thyatira was the Roman church during the dark ages.

The Woman (Israel)  ~  We read about a woman, a child, and a dragon:  “Now a great sign appeared in heaven: a woman clothed with the sun, with the moon under her feet, and on her head a garland of twelve stars.  Then being with child, she cried out in labor and in pain to give birth.  And another sign appeared in heaven: behold, a great, fiery red dragon having seven heads and ten horns, and seven diadems on his heads.  His tail drew a third of the stars of heaven and threw them to the earth.  And the dragon stood before the woman who was ready to give birth, to devour her Child as soon as it was born.  She bore a male Child who was to rule all nations with a rod of iron.  And her Child was caught up to God and His throne.  Then the woman fled into the wilderness, where she has a place prepared by God, that they should feed her there one thousand two hundred and sixty days” (Revelation 12:1-6).

Babylon (the apostate church of the Great Tribulation)  ~  We read about the Scarlet Woman and the Scarlet Beast:  “Then one of the seven angels who had the seven bowls came and talked with me, saying to me, ‘Come, I will show you the judgment of the great harlot who sits on many waters, with whom the kings of the earth committed fornication, and the inhabitants of the earth were made drunk with the wine of her fornication.’  So he carried me away in the Spirit into the wilderness.  And I saw a woman sitting on a scarlet beast which was full of names of blasphemy, having seven heads and ten horns.  The woman was arrayed in purple and scarlet, and adorned with gold and precious stones and pearls, having in her hand a golden cup full of abominations and the filthiness of her fornication.  And on her forehead a name was written:  MYSTERY, BABYLON THE GREAT, THE MOTHER OF HARLOTS AND OF THE ABOMINATIONS OF THE EARTH.  I saw the woman, drunk with the blood of the saints and with the blood of the martyrs of Jesus.  And when I saw her, I marveled with great amazement” (Revelation 17:1-6).

The Bride (the true Church)  ~  We read concerning the New Jerusalem:  “And He said to me, ‘It is done!  I am the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End.  I will give of the fountain of the water of life freely to him who thirsts.  He who overcomes shall inherit all things, and I will be his God and he shall be My son.  But the cowardly, unbelieving, abominable, murderers, sexually immoral, sorcerers, idolaters, and all liars shall have their part in the lake which burns with fire and brimstone, which is the second death.’  Then one of the seven angels who had the seven bowls filled with the seven last plagues came to me and talked with me, saying, ‘Come, I will show you the bride, the Lamb’s wife.’  And he carried me away in the Spirit to a great and high mountain, and showed me the great city, the holy Jerusalem, descending out of heaven from God, having the glory of God. Her light was like a most precious stone, like a jasper stone, clear as crystal.  Also she had a great and high wall with twelve gates, and twelve angels at the gates, and names written on them, which are the names of the twelve tribes of the children of Israel: three gates on the east, three gates on the north, three gates on the south, and three gates on the west” (Revelation 21:6-13, cf. 48:30-35).  This is all about the true Church of Jesus Christ in the post-millennial city—her eternal home.

Christ in Revelation

~ Jesus Christ Is All! ~

The Bible is about Jesus Christ  ~  “Jesus said to them, ‘How foolish you are, and how slow of heart to believe all that the prophets have spoken!  Did not the Christ have to suffer these things and then enter His glory?’  And beginning with Moses and all the Prophets, He explained to them what was said in all the Scriptures concerning Himself” (Luke 24:25-27).

Jesus Christ in the Book of Revelation  ~  In this final book in the canon of Scripture we find many different images of Jesus Christ—The Son of God—The Messiah.  He is the “King of Kings,” the “Lord of Lords,” the “Prince of Peace,” the “Son of Man,” the “Lamb of God,” the great “I AM,” the “Lion of the Tribe of Judah,” and the “Alpha and Omega” (the “First and the Last” – the “Beginning and the End”).  Jesus Christ is God, our Savior, our Lord, the “Great Judge,” the “Lion of Judah,” the “Conquering One,” the “Bridegroom” (of His Church), the “Faithful One,” the “True One,” and He is the living “Word of God.”  And of course in the Book of Revelation we clearly see the end times and Jesus Christ as the “Coming One” for His Church.

Summary  ~  All things come together in Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior.  Those who accept His free gift of salvation (based on His finished work—realizing there is nothing they can do to add to His work) will be with Him forever and ever!

One of the clearest images of Jesus Christ throughout all of Scripture is the “Lamb of God.”  Beginning in the first book of the Bible we find Abel shedding the blood of a lamb for forgiveness of sin (Genesis 4:1-5).  The shedding of blood for forgiveness of sin continues consistently throughout the Old Testament.

In the New Testament the “Only begotten Son of God” comes to earth, lives a sinless life, and is slain as the “Lamb of God” for the permanent forgiveness of sin (for those who accept this free gift).  The great news is that Christ’s death on the Cross is a “finished work” (John 19:30) and there is nothing anyone can do to add to it (they can only receive it by their faith and His grace).  One of the great differences of Christianity from religions is that the work of salvation is DONE and there is nothing you or I can DO to earn it or to add to it!  The Lamb of God has provided a way for your forgiveness but those who fail to accept His free gift will one day meet Him face-to-face as their final and Great Judge.

Comment  ~  We have only touched the surface of Christ in the book of Revelation.  The Apostle Paul told us the Scriptures present many shadows of things to come but the reality is found in Jesus Christ (Colossians 2:17).

The Bottom Line  ~  Christ Jesus—the only One who ever lived a perfect sinless life—is the only possible provision for paying the price of our sins.  Jesus Christ, the Son of God, became the Son of Man so that the sons of men could become sons of God.

the key question: “Who do you say that I am?” (Matthew 16:15).  This is the most important question you will ever answer.  If you do not answer it, or answer it incorrectly, you have made the biggest mistake anyone can make!
