Messiah, 206

~ Messiah Would Bring The Mercies of David ~

“Search the Scriptures—they testify of Me.”
— Jesus Christ (John 5:39)

The Scripture
Incline your ear, and come to Me [God the Father].  Hear, and your soul shall live; and I will make an everlasting covenant with you—the sure mercies of David.  Indeed I have given Him [Jesus Christ] as a witness to the people, a leader and commander for the people” (Isaiah 55:3-4).

The Messiah
God has fulfilled this for us their children, in that He has raised up Jesus.  As it is also written in the second Psalm: ‘You are My Son, today I have begotten You.’  And that He raised Him from the dead, no more to return to corruption, He has spoken thus:I will give you the sure mercies of David’” (Acts 13:33-34).

~~~ EXPLANATORY “MESSIAH” NOTES ~~~
(1)  Each Saturday ALN posts an example of a Hebrew Scriptures prophecy (or foreshadowing) related to the coming Messiah which was fulfilled in the birth, life, death, or resurrection of Jesus Christ.
(2)  While extensive it will not be a complete list—there are hundreds of prophecies of the coming Messiah which have been fulfilled by one man—Jesus Christ at His First Coming.
(3)  It is important that there are many more prophecies of the Messiah, yet unfulfilled, which Christians believe will be fulfilled at the time of His Second Coming.  A particularly relevant Scripture verse in this regard is: “Do not despise prophesies” (1 Thessalonians 5:20).
(4)  These posts will typically consist only of Scripture—which speaks for itself.  Sometimes italicized or bold font will be used by ALN for emphasis.
(5)  The numbering of these fulfilled prophecies of the Messiah is used to differentiate individual posts. It is not chronological (either by time of the prophecy or by sequence in the life of the Messiah).  The posting sequence will, for the most part, be in the order that the prophecies appear in Scripture.
(6)  Because of the chosen methodology (#5 above) we will find many specific prophecies repeated multiple times throughout the Scriptures.
(7)  These serial posts are in addition to our regular Tuesday ALN postings on random topics.
(8)  Subscription to ABUNDANT LIFE NOW blog is simple—just use the link on the left sidebar.  Once subscribed you will not miss future posts.
Fear Not, 22
~ David Knew Peace ~
God does not want His children living in fear.  “Grace and peace be multiplied to you in the knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord, as His divine power has given to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of Him who called us by glory and virtue” (2 Peter 1:2-3).
Fear not,” or its equivalent, is recorded many times in Scripture—ALN will post one “fear not” each week during this calendar year.
This Week’s Verse  ~  “Then Jonathan, Saul’s son, arose and went to David in the woods and strengthened his hand in God.  And he said to him, ‘Do not fear, for the hand of Saul my father shall not find you.  You shall be king over Israel, and I shall be next to you.  Even my father Saul knows that.’  So the two of them made a covenant before the Lord.  And David stayed in the woods, and Jonathan went to his own house” (1 Samuel 23:16-18).
The Foundation Of Peace  ~  “The Lord is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear?  The Lord is the strength of my life; of whom shall I be afraid” (Psalm 27:1).
The Solution If You Lack Peace  ~  Great peace have those who love Your law, and nothing causes them to stumble” (Psalm 119:165).  “You will keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on You” (Isaiah 26:3).  “Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus” (Philippians 4:6-7).
Summary  ~  “No Christ = No Peace” versus “Know Christ = Know Peace”
Eternal Security, 2of2
~ What God’s Word Says About Eternal Security ~
The Bible clearly teaches that salvation is for eternal life.  Those who have trusted in Jesus Christ for their salvation can never lose their salvation.  “That you may know the certainty of those things in which you were instructed” (Luke 1:4).
 “And this is the testimony: that God has given us eternal life, and this life is in His Son.  He who has the Son has life [not “might have”]; he who does not have the Son of God does not have life.  These things I have written to you who believe in the name of the Son of God, that you may know that you have eternal life, and that you may continue to believe in the name of the Son of God” (1 John 5:11-13).
The Messiah, Jesus Christ, said, “I am the good shepherd; and I know My sheep, and am known by My own. … And I give them eternal [not temporary until you lose it] life, and they shall never perish; neither shall anyone snatch them out of My hand” (John 10:14, 28).
“For this reason I also suffer these things; nevertheless I am not ashamed, for I know whom I have believed and am persuaded that He is able to keep what I have committed to Him until that Day” (2 Timothy 1:12).
Jesus Christ said, “Most assuredly, I say to you, he who hears My word and believes in Him who sent Me has [not “will have” or “might gain”] everlasting life, and shall not come into judgment, but has passed from death into life” (John 5:24).
“Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the Spirit who is from God, that we might know the things that have been freely given to us by God” (1 Corinthians 2:12).
“If you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved [not “might be saved if you…]” (Romans 10:9).
“For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. … He who believes in the Son has everlasting life; and he who does not believe the Son shall not see life, but the wrath of God abides on him” (John 3:16, 36).
“Jesus said to her, ‘I am the resurrection and the life.  He who believes in Me, though he may die, he shall live.  And whoever lives and believes in Me shall never die.  Do you believe this?’” (John 11:25-26).
“These are written that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that believing you may have life in His name” (John 20:31).  “These are recorded so that you will believe that he is the Messiah, the Son of God, and that believing in him you will have life” (John 20:31 TLB).
Conclusion  ~  Do you ever have doubts about your security in Christ?  If so, you need to put that behind you.  One way is to memorize the verses above.  Then when Satan attacks you with doubts quote those verses to him and to yourself.
