~ Forgiving Is An Expression of Love ~
Series Scripture
~ Jesus said, “These things I
have spoken to you, that My joy may remain in you, and that your joy may be full. This is My commandment, that you love one another
as I have loved you. Greater love has no
one than this, than to lay down one’s life for his friends. You are My friends if you do whatever I
command you. No longer do I call you
servants, for a servant does not know what his master is doing; but I have
called you friends, for all things that I heard from My Father I have made
known to you. You did not choose Me, but
I chose you and appointed you that you should go and bear fruit, and that your
fruit should remain, that whatever you ask the Father in My name He may give
you. These things I command you, that
you love one another” (John 15:11-17).
Post Scriptures
~ Jesus Christ instructs us to be
forgiving regarding the offenses of others.
“Then He said
to the disciples, ‘It is impossible that no offenses should come, but woe to him
through whom they do come! It would be
better for him if a millstone were hung around his neck, and he were thrown
into the sea, than that he should offend one of these little ones. Take heed to yourselves. If your brother sins against you, rebuke him;
and if he repents, forgive him. And if he sins against you seven times in a
day, and seven times in a day returns to you, saying, “I repent,” you shall forgive him’” (Luke 17:1-4).
“As the elect
of God, holy and beloved, put on tender mercies, kindness, humility, meekness,
longsuffering; bearing with one another, and forgiving one another, if anyone
has a complaint against another; even as
Christ forgave you, so you also must do.
But above all these things put on love, which is the bond of perfection”
(Colossians 3:12-14).
Additional Comment
~ A lack of forgiveness shows a
lack of understanding of the Cross of Jesus Christ. A lack of forgiveness denies the power of the
Cross.
