~ Jesus Commands His Followers to Love
~
Series Scripture
~ Jesus said, “These things I
have spoken to you, that My joy may remain in you, and that your joy may be
full. This is My commandment, that you love one another as I have loved you. Greater love has no one than this, than to
lay down one’s life for his friends. You
are My friends if you do whatever I command you. No longer do I call you servants, for a
servant does not know what his master is doing; but I have called you friends,
for all things that I heard from My Father I have made known to you. You did not choose Me, but I chose you and
appointed you that you should go and bear fruit, and that your fruit should
remain, that whatever you ask the Father in My name He may give you. These
things I command you, that you love one another” (John 15:11-17).
Post Scriptures
~ “Then one of the scribes came,
and having heard them reasoning together, perceiving that He had answered them
well, asked Him, ‘Which is the first
commandment of all?’ Jesus answered
him, ‘The first of all the commandments is: “Hear, O Israel, the Lord our God,
the Lord is one. And you shall love the Lord your God with all
your heart, with all your soul, with all your mind, and with all your strength.”
This is the first commandment. And the second, like it, is this: “You shall love your neighbor as yourself.”
There
is no other commandment greater than these.’ So the scribe said to Him, ‘Well said,
Teacher. You have spoken the truth, for
there is one God, and there is no other but He.
And to love Him with all the heart, with all the understanding, with all
the soul, and with all the strength, and to love one’s neighbor as oneself, is
more than all the whole burnt offerings and sacrifices’” (Mark 12:28-33).
“But when the
Pharisees heard that He had silenced the Sadducees, they gathered
together. Then one of them, a lawyer,
asked Him a question, testing Him, and saying,
‘Teacher, which is the great
commandment in the law?’ Jesus said
to him, ‘“You shall love the Lord your
God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind.” This is the first and great commandment. And the second is like it: “You shall love your neighbor as yourself.” On these two commandments hang all the Law
and the Prophets’” (Matthew 22:34-40).
Jesus said, “A new commandment I give to you, that you
love one another; as I have loved you, that you also love one another. By this all will know that you are My
disciples, if you have love for one another” (John 13:34-35).
