~ Jesus Is Our Substitute ~
Introduction ~ Jesus Christ provided payment of your sin – past, present, and future – at the Cross of Calvary. The theological term for Christ’s atonement for sin is vicarious – in simple terms it means on your behalf.
Jesus Christ by sacrificing his perfect sinless life on behalf of you is a marvel beyond human understanding. Jesus acted as the substitute, taking our place at the bar of God’s justice. This is also referred to as substitutionary atonement. Atonement in simple terms means “at one with God” (meaning restored relationship with God).
Christ didn’t lay down His life for Himself; He laid it down for His sheep. He is our ultimate Substitute.

Scripture ~ Behold! The Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world! (John 1:29b).
Therefore, as one trespass led to condemnation for all men, so one act of righteousness leads to justification and life for all men. For as by the one man’s disobedience the many were made sinners, so by the one man’s obedience the many will be made righteous. Now the law came in to increase the trespass, but where sin increased, grace abounded all the more, so that, as sin reigned in death, grace also might reign through righteousness leading to eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord (Romans 5:18–21).
