~ Jesus Christ Is the Greatest of All Missionaries
~
The Bible is about Jesus Christ
~ “Jesus
said to them, ‘How foolish you are, and how slow of heart to believe all that
the prophets have spoken! Did not the
Christ have to suffer these things
and then enter His glory?’ And beginning
with Moses and all the Prophets, He explained to them what was said in all the
Scriptures concerning Himself” (Luke 24:25-27).
Jesus Christ
is foreshadowed in the Book of Jonah as the Great Foreign Missionary. He is one greater than Jonah. It is interesting that Jesus Christ can be
identified with even the most imperfect of His children.
There are
many points in the life of Jonah which have parallels in the life of Jesus
Christ while He was on earth. The most
obvious of these parallels is that they both spent three days and nights
separated from the world around them.
Jesus, Himself, pointed out this contrast.
“But
He [Jesus Christ] answered and said to them, ‘An evil and adulterous generation
seeks after a sign, and no sign will be
given to it except the sign of the prophet Jonah. For as
Jonah was three days and three nights in the belly of the great fish, so will
the Son of Man be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth. The men of Nineveh will rise up in the
judgment with this generation and condemn it, because they repented at the
preaching of Jonah; and indeed a greater
than Jonah is here’” (Matthew 12:39-41).
Comment
~ We have only touched the
surface of Christ in the Book of Jonah.
The Apostle
Paul told us the Scriptures present many shadows of things to come but the
reality is found in Jesus Christ (Colossians 2:17).
