~ Jesus Christ Is Our Strength and Our
Shield ~
The Bible is about Jesus Christ
~ “Jesus
said to them, ‘How foolish you are, and how slow of heart to believe all that
the prophets have spoken! Did not the
Christ have to suffer these things
and then enter His glory?’ And beginning
with Moses and all the Prophets, He explained to them what was said in all the
Scriptures concerning Himself” (Luke 24:25-27).
In the Book
of Nahum, Jesus Christ is seen as the Avenger of God’s people, our strength and
our shield, a stronghold in the Day of Trouble, and a Prophet of comfort and
vengeance.
A couple of
interesting verses in Nahum are “God is jealous, and
the Lord avenges; the Lord avenges and is furious. The Lord
will take vengeance on His adversaries, and He reserves wrath for His
enemies” (Nahum 1:2). “Behold, on the
mountains the feet of Him who brings good
tidings, who proclaims peace! O Judah, keep your
appointed feasts, perform your vows for the
wicked one shall no more pass through you; he is utterly cut off” (Nahum
1:15). Nahum is the bringer of Good
Tidings.
Remember that earlier Isaiah wrote: “How beautiful upon the mountains are the feet of Him who
brings good news,
Who proclaims peace,
Who brings
glad tidings of good things, Who proclaims salvation, Who says to Zion, ‘Your God reigns!’” (Isaiah
52:7).
The Apostle Paul later clearly identified this verse in
Isaiah as being a reference to the Gospel of Jesus Christ. “How then shall they call on Him in whom they have not
believed? And how shall they believe in
Him of whom they have not heard? And how
shall they hear without a preacher? And
how shall they preach unless they are sent?
As it is written: ‘How
beautiful are the feet of those who preach the gospel of peace, who bring glad tidings of good things!’ But they have not all obeyed the gospel. For Isaiah says, ‘Lord, who has believed our report?’” (Romans
10:14-16).
Comment
~ We have only touched the
surface of Christ in the Book of Nahum.
The Apostle
Paul told us the Scriptures present many shadows of things to come but the
reality is found in Jesus Christ (Colossians 2:17).
