~ Guardian Angels ~
Background
~ In essence the primary work of
the spirit beings called angels is to minister to others with the ultimate
purpose of bringing glory to God.
Angels Ministered to Jesus Christ
~ “Then Jesus said to him, ‘Away
with you, Satan! For it is written, “You
shall worship the Lord your God, and Him only you shall serve.”’ Then the devil left Him, and behold, angels came and ministered to Him” (Matthew
4:10-11). “And Jesus was withdrawn from
them about a stone’s throw, and He knelt down and prayed, saying, ‘Father, if
it is Your will, take this cup away from Me; nevertheless not My will, but
Yours, be done.’ Then an angel appeared to Him from heaven,
strengthening Him. And being in
agony, He prayed more earnestly. Then
His sweat became like great drops of blood falling down to the ground” (Luke
22:41-44).
Angels Minister To
Believers ~ “Take
heed that you do not despise one of these little ones, for I say to you that in heaven their angels always see the face
of My Father who is in heaven. For
the Son of Man has come to save that which was lost” (Matthew 18:10-11). “So, when he had considered this, he came to
the house of Mary, the mother of John whose surname was Mark, where many were
gathered together praying. And as Peter
knocked at the door of the gate, a girl named Rhoda came to answer. When she recognized Peter’s voice, because of
her gladness she did not open the gate, but ran in and announced that Peter
stood before the gate. But they said to
her, ‘You are beside yourself!’ Yet she
kept insisting that it was so. So they said, ‘It is his angel’” (Acts
12:12-15). “But to which of the angels has He ever said: ‘Sit at My
right hand, till I make Your enemies Your footstool’? Are they
not all ministering spirits sent forth to minister for those who will inherit
salvation?” (Hebrews 1:13-14).
“Guardian Angels”
~ While the term “guardian angel”
does not appear in Scripture the concept is Biblical. As we have seen angels are ministering
spirits. Also consider this
passage: “Let brotherly love continue. Do not forget to entertain strangers, for by
so doing some have unwittingly
entertained angels” (Hebrews 13:1-2).
