Who Is This?

~ What Is Your Answer? ~

Scripture  ~  “So the disciples went and did as Jesus commanded them.  They brought the donkey and the colt, laid their clothes on them, and set Him on them.  And a very great multitude spread their clothes on the road; others cut down branches from the trees and spread them on the road.  Then the multitudes who went before and those who followed cried out, saying: ‘Hosanna to the Son of David!  “Blessed is He who comes in the name of the Lord!” Hosanna in the highest!’

“And when He had come into Jerusalem, all the city was moved, saying, ‘Who is this? So the multitudes said, ‘This is Jesus, the prophet from Nazareth of Galilee’” (Matthew 21:6-11).

Significance  ~  This is the most important question of all time!  Men and women have given many answers over the following centuries.  Some have said: “He was a great teacher.”  “He was a wise man.” Some have said “He was a fraud.”

The most important thing any individual, including you, can do while on earth is to answer this question correctly and then act upon that answer.

Jesus was not only a prophet, but a priest, and a king.  Most importantly He is the only Savior for mankind.

Jesus said, “As Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the Son of Man be lifted up [on the Cross], that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have eternal life.  For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.  For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved.

“He who believes in Him is not condemned; but he who does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.  And this is the condemnation, that the light has come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil.  For everyone practicing evil hates the light and does not come to the light, lest his deeds should be exposed.  But he who does the truth comes to the light, that his deeds may be clearly seen, that they have been done in God” (John 3:14-21).

the key question:  “Who do you say that I am?” (Matthew 16:15).  This is the most important question you will ever answer.  If you do not answer it, or answer it incorrectly, you have made the biggest mistake anyone can make!

Behold Your King

~ Different Interpretations ~

Prophesy  ~  “Rejoice greatly, O daughter of Zion!  Shout, O daughter of Jerusalem!  Behold, your King is coming to you; He is just and having salvation, lowly and riding on a donkey, a colt, the foal of a donkey” (Zechariah 9:9).

Fulfillment  ~  The next day a great multitude that had come to the feast, when they heard that Jesus was coming to Jerusalem, took branches of palm trees and went out to meet Him, and cried out: ‘Hosanna!  “Blessed is He who comes in the name of the Lord!”  The King of Israel!’  Then Jesus, when He had found a young donkey, sat on it; as it is written: ‘Fear not, daughter of Zion; behold, your King is coming, sitting on a donkey’s colt.’  His disciples did not understand these things at first; but when Jesus was glorified, then they remembered that these things were written about Him and that they had done these things to Him” (John 12:12-16).

Comment  ~  The crowd wanted to see Jesus—but on their own terms.  Some of the Jews were excited because they were seeing fulfilled prophecy.  Most of the Romans were upset because they saw a rival king entering town—they did not realize that Jesus came to conquer sin and death, not to conquer Rome militarily.
