God In You, 4of4

~ The Results of God In You ~

God has given us the written Word of God as our instruction manual for daily living.  Consider the result of following its guidance in our daily lives.

Walking As He Walked  ~  “Whoever keeps His word, truly the love of God is perfected in him.  By this we know that we are in Him.  He who says he abides in Him ought himself also to walk just as He walked” (1 John 2:5-6).

Doing The Will Of God  ~  “Do not love the world or the things in the world.  If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him.  For all that is in the world — the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life — is not of the Father but is of the world.  And the world is passing away, and the lust of it; but he who does the will of God abides forever” (1 John 2:15-17).

His Joy Remaining In You  ~  Jesus said, “These things I have spoken to you, that My joy may remain in you, and that your joy may be full” (John 15:11).

concluding thought to this series:  Interesting to note that the majority of these intimate aspects were given to us by the Apostle John—the disciple who had the most intimate relationship with Jesus Christ!  (c.f. John 20:2; 21:7, 20)

key principle:  God has no favorites, but He allows us to choose our level of intimacy with Him.  Have you taken full advantage of that opportunity?

God In You, 3of4

~ The Perseverance of God In You ~

The Christian life is a marathon—not a sprint.  Are you careful to “continue on”?

Continuing In His Word  ~  “Then Jesus said to those Jews who believed Him, ‘If you abide in My word, you are My disciples indeed.  And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free’” (John 8:31-32).

Continuing In Love  ~  Jesus said, “As the Father loved Me, I also have loved you; abide in My love.  If you keep My commandments, you will abide in My love, just as I have kept My Father's commandments and abide in His love.  These things I have spoken to you, that My joy may remain in you, and that your joy may be full.  This is My commandment, that you love one another as I have loved you” (John 15:9-12).

Continuing In The Son  ~  Therefore let that abide in you which you heard from the beginning.  If what you heard from the beginning abides in you, you also will abide in the Son and in the Father.  And this is the promise that He has promised us — eternal life” (1 John 2:24-25).

Continuing In The Father  ~  Therefore let that abide in you which you heard from the beginning.  If what you heard from the beginning abides in you, you also will abide in the Son and in the Father.  And this is the promise that He has promised us — eternal life” (1 John 2:24-25).

Continuing In The Things You Have Heard  ~  But you must continue in the things which you have learned and been assured of, knowing from whom you have learned them, and that from childhood you have known the Holy Scriptures, which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus.  All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work” (2 Timothy 3:14-17).

God In You, 2of4

~ Abiding Aspects of God In You ~

Word Of God Abiding In You  ~  I have written to you, fathers, because you have known Him who is from the beginning.  I have written to you, young men, because you are strong, and the Word of God abides in you, and you have overcome the wicked one” (1 John 2:14).

Abiding In The Light  ~  He who says he is in the light, and hates his brother, is in darkness until now.  He who loves his brother abides in the light, and there is no cause for stumbling in him.  But he who hates his brother is in darkness and walks in darkness, and does not know where he is going, because the darkness has blinded his eyes” (1 John 2:9-11).

Not Abiding In Darkness  ~  Jesus said, “I have come as a light into the world, that whoever believes in Me should not abide in darkness” (John 12:46).

Abiding In Christ  ~  Jesus said, “Abide in Me, and I in you.  As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, unless it abides in the vine, neither can you, unless you abide in Me.  I am the vine, you are the branches.  He who abides in Me, and I in him, bears much fruit; for without Me you can do nothing.  If anyone does not abide in Me, he is cast out as a branch and is withered; and they gather them and throw them into the fire, and they are burned.  If you abide in Me, and My words abide in you, you will ask what you desire, and it shall be done for you.  By this My Father is glorified, that you bear much fruit; so you will be My disciples.  As the Father loved Me, I also have loved you; abide in My love.  If you keep My commandments, you will abide in My love, just as I have kept My Father’s commandments and abide in His love” (John 15:4-10).

Abiding in Love  ~  For this is the message that you heard from the beginning, that we should love one another” (1 John 3:11).

God In You, 1of4

~ The Basics of God In You ~

What is the result or evidence of God dwelling in you, and you dwelling in God?  The Greek word meno is translated in the New Testament into eight different words, viz: abide, continue, remain, tarry, be present, endure, stand, and dwell.  Here, and in the following posts in this series, are a few of the results or evidence:

Feeding Upon Christ  ~  “Then Jesus said to them, ‘Most assuredly, I say to you, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink His blood, you have no life in you.  Whoever eats My flesh and drinks My blood has eternal life, and I will raise him up at the last day.  For My flesh is food indeed, and My blood is drink indeed.  He who eats My flesh and drinks My blood abides in Me, and I in him.  As the living Father sent Me, and I live because of the Father, so he who feeds on Me will live because of Me.  This is the bread which came down from heaven — not as your fathers ate the manna, and are dead.  He who eats this bread will live forever.’  These things He said in the synagogue as He taught in Capernaum” (John 6:53-59).

Confessing Jesus As The Son of God  ~  Whoever confesses that Jesus is the Son of God, God abides in him, and he in God.  And we have known and believed the love that God has for us.  God is love, and he who abides in love abides in God, and God in him” (1 John 4:15-16).

Christ Dwelling In Your Heart By Faith  ~  For this reason I bow my knees to the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, from whom the whole family in heaven and earth is named, that He would grant you, according to the riches of His glory, to be strengthened with might through His Spirit in the inner man, that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith; that you, being rooted and grounded in love, may be able to comprehend with all the saints what is the width and length and depth and height — to know the love of Christ which passes knowledge; that you may be filled with all the fullness of God” (Ephesians 3:14-19).

Dwelling In Love  ~  Whoever confesses that Jesus is the Son of God, God abides in him, and he in God.  And we have known and believed the love that God has for us.  God is love, and he who abides in love abides in God, and God in him” (1 John 4:15-16).

Keeping His Commandments  ~  Now he who keeps His commandments abides in Him, and He in him.  And by this we know that He abides in us, by the Spirit whom He has given us” (1 John 3:24).
