The Christian Walk, 37of37

~ Walk, Don’t Sprint ~

Series Introduction ~ The New Testament has much to say about how a believer should live their life. Christians should never have to guess about the life that pleases God. In this series we look at a variety of passages that speak about the Christian walk on earth.

Scripture ~ “Enoch lived sixty-five years, and begot Methuselah. After he begot Methuselah, Enoch walked with God three hundred years, and had sons and daughters. So all the days of Enoch were three hundred and sixty-five years. And Enoch walked with God; and he was not, for God took him” (Genesis 5:21-24).

Comments ~ If when you die God were to write an epitaph about your life, can you imagine Him making a better statement about your life than “he walked with Me”?

Walking is about a continuous and steady action – it involves consistency and regularity. Enoch lived a live of constant relationship with God.

If you are like me, you look back on your life and you find inconsistency – even fickleness – regarding your relationship with God. At times I have sprinted, jogged, walked, or even taken a period of rest. But “Enoch walked with God three hundred years.” There is no mention of hint of inconsistency with his walk. Since, we know Enoch was a sinner like the rest of us, we can be sure it wasn’t an absolute consistency – but as God viewed his entire life God was pleased.

Quote ~ “To walk with someone means you are aware of their presence. And this is true with God. If you’re to walk with Him, you must be continually aware of His presence.” —Kay Smith (Pleasing God)

Resources ~ The author has written two books that are particularly relevant for those seeking a closer walk with God.

[1] If you are unsure of what God has in mind for you, I recommend another book: “GOD’S DESIRE: How To Please God,” eBook ISBN: 978-1393211785, ASIN: B08H4F619W; or print edition: ISBN: 979-8223962915, approximately 200 pages.

This book starts with the complex subject of the will of God presented in an innovative, easy-to-understand, and quick-read format that concisely explains the three main components of God's will. This is critical to understanding how to please God.

The illustrated “Christian Life Model” and “Christian Guidance Model” graphically display what God desires from His children and how they can be assured of making correct decisions throughout their lives. The book closes with a concise description of the benefits of following the two models.

[2] Those who desire to finish their Christian life strong from this point on might want to consider the book: “CHRIST’S DISCIPLE: How To Finish Strong,” eBook ISBN: 978-1393844402, ASIN: B091XZF79B; or print edition ISBN: 979-8223262800, approximately 162 pages.

The Christian Walk, 36

~ Walk In Fellowship ~

Series Introduction ~ The New Testament has much to say about how a believer should live their life. Christians should never have to guess about the life that pleases God.  In this series we look at a variety of passages that speak about the Christian walk on earth.

Scripture ~ “Can two walk together, unless they are agreed?” (Amos 3:3).

“Let us consider one another in order to stir up love and good works, not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as is the manner of some, but exhorting one another, and so much the more as you see the Day approaching” (Hebrews 10:24-25)

“On the first day of the week let each one of you lay something aside, storing up as he may prosper” (1 Corinthians 16:2a).

Jesus said, “Seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you. Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about its own things. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble” (Matthew 6:33-34).

Comments ~ The old tongue-in-cheek saying is that fellow-ship is a few guys in a ship! There are at least two root concepts in the concept of fellowship. First, there exists a positive relationship and second there is a commonality such as a shared interest or common goal.

As Christians we not only walk in fellowship with our fellow believers but also with each member of the Trinity. Our fellowship is with God the Father (1 John 1:3). Our fellowship is with Jesus Christ (1 John 1:3; Philippians 3:10). Our fellowship is with the Holy Spirit (Philippians 2:1; 2 Corinthians 13:14).

To be in fellowship is to be in harmony. Are you living in harmony with all three members of the Trinity and with your fellow believers?

Quote ~ “To walk with someone means you are aware of their presence. And this is true with God. If you’re to walk with Him, you must be continually aware of His presence.” —Kay Smith (Pleasing God)

The Christian Walk, 35

~ Don’t Walk Away When Inappropriate ~

Series Introduction ~ The New Testament has much to say about how a believer should live their life.  Christians should never have to guess about the life that pleases God.  In this series we look at a variety of passages that speak about the Christian walk on earth.

Sub-Series ~ Not only are we to walk properly but there are times when we should walk away from a situation. In this last post of this sub-series, we see there are times where we should not walk away.

Scripture ~ “When Jesus knew in Himself that His disciples complained about this, He said to them, ‘Does this offend you?  What then if you should see the Son of Man ascend where He was before? It is the Spirit who gives life; the flesh profits nothing. The words that I speak to you are spirit, and they are life. But there are some of you who do not believe.’ For Jesus knew from the beginning who they were who did not believe, and who would betray Him. And He said, ‘Therefore I have said to you that no one can come to Me unless it has been granted to him by My Father.’

“From that time many of His disciples went back and walked with Him no more. Then Jesus said to the twelve, ‘Do you also want to go away?’

“But Simon Peter answered Him, ‘Lord, to whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life. Also we have come to believe and know that You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.’

“Jesus answered them, ‘Did I not choose you, the twelve, and one of you is a devil?’ He spoke of Judas Iscariot, the son of Simon, for it was he who would betray Him, being one of the twelve” (John 6:61-71).

Sub-Series ~ Not only are we to walk properly but there are times when we should walk away from a situation.

Scripture ~ “While He spoke these things to them, behold, a ruler came and worshiped Him, saying, ‘My daughter has just died, but come and lay Your hand on her and she will live.’ So Jesus arose and followed him, and so did His disciples.

“And suddenly, a woman who had a flow of blood for twelve years came from behind and touched the hem of His garment. For she said to herself, ‘If only I may touch His garment, I shall be made well.’ But Jesus turned around, and when He saw her He said, ‘Be of good cheer, daughter; your faith has made you well.’ And the woman was made well from that hour.

“When Jesus came into the ruler’s house, and saw the flute players and the noisy crowd wailing, He said to them, ‘Make room, for the girl is not dead, but sleeping.’ And they ridiculed Him. But when the crowd was put outside, He went in and took her by the hand, and the girl arose. And the report of this went out into all that land” (Matthew 9:18-26).

Sub-Series ~ Not only are we to walk properly but there are times when we should walk away from a situation.

Scripture ~ “Then Jesus said to them, ‘What man is there among you who has one sheep, and if it falls into a pit on the Sabbath, will not lay hold of it and lift it out? Of how much more value then is a man than a sheep? Therefore it is lawful to do good on the Sabbath.’ Then He said to the man, ‘Stretch out your hand.’ And he stretched it out, and it was restored as whole as the other. Then the Pharisees went out and plotted against Him, how they might destroy Him. But when Jesus knew it, He withdrew from there. And great multitudes followed Him, [BR1] and He healed them all” (Matthew 12:11-15).
