~ Danger, Redemption, Resurrection,
& Judgment ~
Trumpet of Danger
~ “Again
the word of the Lord came to me,
saying, ‘Son of man, speak to the children of your people, and say to them:
“When I bring the sword upon a land, and the people of the land take a man from
their territory and make him their watchman, when he sees the sword coming upon
the land, if he blows the trumpet and
warns the people, then whoever hears the sound of the trumpet and does not
take warning, if the sword comes and takes him away, his blood shall be on his
own head. He heard the sound of the
trumpet, but did not take warning; his blood shall be upon himself. But he who
takes warning will save his life. But if the watchman sees the sword coming and
does not blow the trumpet, and the people are not warned, and the sword comes
and takes any person from among them, he is taken away in his iniquity; but his
blood I will require at the watchman's hand”’” (Ezekiel 33:1-6). This
trumpet was a trumpet of warning.
Trumpet of Redemption
~ “And
you shall count seven sabbaths of years for yourself, seven times seven years;
and the time of the seven sabbaths of years shall be to you forty-nine years.
Then you shall cause the trumpet of the Jubilee to sound on the tenth day of
the seventh month; on the Day of
Atonement you shall make the trumpet to sound throughout all your land. And
you shall consecrate the fiftieth year, and proclaim liberty throughout all the
land to all its inhabitants. It shall be a Jubilee for you; and each of you
shall return to his possession, and each of you shall return to his family.
That fiftieth year shall be a Jubilee to you; in it you shall neither sow nor
reap what grows of its own accord, nor gather the grapes of your untended vine.
For it is the Jubilee; it shall be holy to you; you shall eat its produce from
the field” (Leviticus 25:8-12). This trumpet was a trumpet of liberation.
Trumpet of Resurrection
~ “Now
this I say, brethren, that flesh and blood cannot inherit the kingdom of God;
nor does corruption inherit incorruption. Behold, I tell you a mystery: We
shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed—in a moment, in the twinkling
of an eye, at the last trumpet. For the
trumpet will sound, and the dead will be raised incorruptible, and we shall
be changed. For this corruptible must put on incorruption, and this mortal must
put on immortality. So when this corruptible has put on incorruption, and this
mortal has put on immortality, then shall be brought to pass the saying that is
written: ‘Death is swallowed up in victory’” (1 Corinthians 15:50-54). This
will be the trumpet which signals the
resurrection of the dead.
Trumpet of Judgment
~ “Then
the sixth angel sounded: And I heard a voice from the four horns of the golden
altar which is before God, saying to the
sixth angel who had the trumpet, ‘Release the four angels who are bound at
the great river Euphrates.’ So the four angels, who had been prepared for the
hour and day and month and year, were
released to kill a third of mankind. Now the number of the army of the
horsemen was two hundred million; I heard the number of them. And thus I saw
the horses in the vision: those who sat on them had breastplates of fiery red,
hyacinth blue, and sulfur yellow; and the heads of the horses were like the
heads of lions; and out of their mouths came fire, smoke, and brimstone. By
these three plagues a third of mankind was killed—by the fire and the smoke and
the brimstone which came out of their mouths. For their power is in their mouth and in their tails;
for their tails are like serpents, having heads; and with them they do harm”
(Revelation 9:13-19). This will be a trumpet which announces wrath.
