Jesus Was Rejected, 30

~ Jesus Was Executed, 4 ~

This Series ~ Jesus Christ came to earth to save sinners. He lived a sinless life. He was a truly righteous man. But He was rejected by mankind. He died a cruel, painful death as a penalty for our sins. Those who now accept Him and trust Him for eternal salvation will live forever with Him without any more pains or sadness.

Scripture ~ “Now as they led Him away, they laid hold of a certain man, Simon a Cyrenian, who was coming from the country, and on him they laid the cross that he might bear it after Jesus.

27 “And a great multitude of the people followed Him, and women who also mourned and lamented Him. 28 But Jesus, turning to them, said, ‘Daughters of Jerusalem, do not weep for Me, but weep for yourselves and for your children. 29 For indeed the days are coming in which they will say, “Blessed are the barren, wombs that never bore, and breasts which never nursed!” 30 Then they will begin ‘to say to the mountains, “Fall on us!” and to the hills, “Cover us!” 31 For if they do these things in the green wood, what will be done in the dry?’

32 “There were also two others, criminals, led with Him to be put to death. 33 And when they had come to the place called Calvary, there they crucified Him, and the criminals, one on the right hand and the other on the left. 34 Then Jesus said, ‘Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they do.’ And they divided His garments and cast lots. 35 And the people stood looking on. But even the rulers with them sneered, saying, ‘He saved others; let Him save Himself if He is the Christ, the chosen of God.’

36 “The soldiers also mocked Him, coming and offering Him sour wine, 37 and saying, ‘If You are the King of the Jews, save Yourself.’

38 “And an inscription also was written over Him in letters of Greek, Latin, and Hebrew:

THIS IS THE KING OF THE JEWS

39 “Then one of the criminals who were hanged blasphemed Him, saying, ‘If You are the Christ, save Yourself and us.’

40 “But the other, answering, rebuked him, saying, ‘Do you not even fear God, seeing you are under the same condemnation? 41 And we indeed justly, for we receive the due reward of our deeds; but this Man has done nothing wrong.’ 42 Then he said to Jesus, ‘Lord, remember me when You come into Your kingdom.’

43 “And Jesus said to him, ‘Assuredly, I say to you, today you will be with Me in Paradise.’

44 “Now it was about the sixth hour, and there was darkness over all the earth until the ninth hour. 45 Then the sun was darkened, and the veil of the temple was torn in two. 46 And when Jesus had cried out with a loud voice, He said, ‘Father, into Your hands I commit My spirit;’ Having said this, He breathed His last.

47 “So when the centurion saw what had happened, he glorified God, saying, ‘Certainly this was a righteous Man’” (Luke 23:26-47

Jesus Was Rejected, 29

~ Jesus Was Executed, 3 ~

This Series ~ Jesus Christ came to earth to save sinners. He lived a sinless life. He was a truly righteous man. But He was rejected by mankind. He died a cruel, painful death as a penalty for our sins. Those who now accept Him and trust Him for eternal salvation will live forever with Him without any more pains or sadness.

Scripture ~ 24 “And when they crucified Him, they divided His garments, casting lots for them to determine what every man should take. 25 Now it was the third hour, and they crucified Him. 26 And the inscription of His accusation was written above:

THE KING OF THE JEWS

27 “With Him they also crucified two robbers, one on His right and the other on His left. 28 So the Scripture was fulfilled which says, ‘And He was numbered with the transgressors.’

29 “And those who passed by blasphemed Him, wagging their heads and saying, ‘Aha! You who destroy the temple and build it in three days, 30 save Yourself, and come down from the cross!’

31 “Likewise the chief priests also, mocking among themselves with the scribes, said, ‘He saved others; Himself He cannot save. 32 Let the Christ, the King of Israel, descend now from the cross, that we may see and believe.’ Even those who were crucified with Him reviled Him.

33 “Now when the sixth hour had come, there was darkness over the whole land until the ninth hour. 34 And at the ninth hour Jesus cried out with a loud voice, saying, ‘Eloi, Eloi, lama sabachthani?’ which is translated, ‘My God, My God, why have You forsaken Me?’

35 “Some of those who stood by, when they heard that, said, ‘Look, He is calling for Elijah!’ 36 Then someone ran and filled a sponge full of sour wine, put it on a reed, and offered it to Him to drink, saying, ‘Let Him alone; let us see if Elijah will come to take Him down.’

37 “And Jesus cried out with a loud voice, and breathed His last.

38 “Then the veil of the temple was torn in two from top to bottom. 39 So when the centurion, who stood opposite Him, saw that He cried out like this and breathed His last, he said, ‘Truly this Man was the Son of God!’

40 “There were also women looking on from afar, among whom were Mary Magdalene, Mary the mother of James the Less and of Joses, and Salome, 41 who also followed Him and ministered to Him when He was in Galilee, and many other women who came up with Him to Jerusalem.

42 “Now when evening had come, because it was the Preparation Day, that is, the day before the Sabbath, 43 Joseph of Arimathea, a prominent council member, who was himself waiting for the kingdom of God, coming and taking courage, went in to Pilate and asked for the body of Jesus. 44 Pilate marveled that He was already dead; and summoning the centurion, he asked him if He had been dead for some time. 45 So when he found out from the centurion, he granted the body to Joseph. 46 Then he bought fine linen, took Him down, and wrapped Him in the linen. And he laid Him in a tomb which had been hewn out of the rock, and rolled a stone against the door of the tomb. 47 And Mary Magdalene and Mary the mother of Joses observed where He was laid” (Mark 15:24–47).

Jesus Was Rejected, 28

~ Jesus Was Executed, 2 ~

This Series ~ Jesus Christ came to earth to save sinners. He lived a sinless life. He was a truly righteous man. But He was rejected by mankind. He died a cruel, painful death as a penalty for our sins. Those who now accept Him and trust Him for eternal salvation will live forever with Him without any more pains or sadness.

Scripture ~ “Then they crucified Him, and divided His garments, casting lots, that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the prophet: ‘They divided My garments among them, and for My clothing they cast lots.’

36 “Sitting down, they kept watch over Him there. 37 And they put up over His head the accusation written against Him:

THIS IS JESUS THE KING OF THE JEWS

38 “Then two robbers were crucified with Him, one on the right and another on the left. 39 And those who passed by blasphemed Him, wagging their heads 40 and saying, ‘You who destroy the temple and build it in three days, save Yourself! If You are the Son of God, come down from the cross.’

41 “Likewise the chief priests also, mocking with the scribes and elders, said, 42 ‘He saved others; Himself He cannot save. If He is the King of Israel, let Him now come down from the cross, and we will believe Him. 43 He trusted in God; let Him deliver Him now if He will have Him; for He said, “I am the Son of God”.’

44 “Even the robbers who were crucified with Him reviled Him with the same thing.

45 “Now from the sixth hour until the ninth hour there was darkness over all the land. 46 And about the ninth hour Jesus cried out with a loud voice, saying, ‘Eli, Eli, lama sabachthani?’ that is, ‘My God, My God, why have You forsaken Me?’

47 “Some of those who stood there, when they heard that, said, ‘This Man is calling for Elijah!’ 48 Immediately one of them ran and took a sponge, filled it with sour wine and put it on a reed, and offered it to Him to drink.

49 “The rest said, ‘Let Him alone; let us see if Elijah will come to save Him.’

50 And Jesus cried out again with a loud voice, and yielded up His spirit” (Matthew 27:35-50).
