~ What Is The Christian’s “Hope”? ~
Prolog ~ The
Christian’s “hope” is easily misunderstood.
The meaning of the root word in Scripture is of an absolute certainty.
It is a well-grounded expectation of the fulfillment of God’s
promises. Furthermore, in addition the
record of God’s past kept promises this hope is assured by many factors. The most important is the fact that God
dwells within each of His believers. “Now
He who has prepared us for this very thing is God, who also has given us the Spirit as a guarantee” (2 Corinthians
5:5).
Scripture
~ “To them God willed to make
known what are the riches of the glory of this mystery among the Gentiles:
which is Christ in you, the hope of glory. Him we preach, warning every man and teaching
every man in all wisdom, that we may present every man perfect in Christ
Jesus. To this end I also labor,
striving according to His working which works in me mightily” (Colossians
1:27-29).
“But God has
revealed them to us through His Spirit. For
the Spirit searches all things, yes, the deep things of God. For what man knows the things
of a man except the spirit of the man which is in him? Even so no one knows the things of God except
the Spirit of God. Now we have received, not the spirit of the
world, but the Spirit who is from God,
that we might know the things that have been freely given to us by God” (1 Corinthians
2:10-12). “Therefore, having been
justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through
whom also we have access by faith into this grace in which we stand, and
rejoice in hope of the glory of God. And
not only that, but we also glory in tribulations, knowing that tribulation
produces perseverance; and perseverance, character; and character, hope. Now hope
does not disappoint, because the love of God has been poured out in our hearts
by the Holy Spirit who was given to us” (Romans 5:1-5).
Epilog
~ “But as it is written: ‘Eye has not seen, nor
ear heard, nor have entered into the heart of man the things which God has prepared
for those who love Him.’ But God has revealed them to us through His
Spirit. For the Spirit searches all
things, yes, the deep things of God. For
what man knows the things of a man except the spirit of the man which is in
him? Even so no one knows the things of
God except the Spirit of God. Now we
have received, not the spirit of the world, but the Spirit who is from God,
that we might know the things that have been freely given to us by God” (1 Corinthians
2:9-12).
