Salvation, 9

~ The Importance of Salvation ~

Salvation is not a Reward for the Righteous.
It is an available Gift for those who understand their Guilt!

Without Salvation You Cannot Please God  ~  “For to be carnally minded [natural human] is death, but to be spiritually minded [born again human] is life and peace.  Because the carnal mind is enmity against God; for it is not subject to the law of God, nor indeed can be.  So then, those who are in the flesh [natural humans] cannot please God” (Romans 8:6-8).

Without Salvation You Cannot Serve God  ~  Jesus said, “No one can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one and love the other, or else he will be loyal to the one and despise the other.  You cannot serve God and mammon” (Matthew 6:24).

Jesus Served And Suffered For Us  ~  Jesus said, “Whoever desires to be first among you, let him be your slave—just as the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His life a ransom for many” (Matthew 20:27-28).

Jesus Worked Out And Finished Salvation For Us  ~  “Jesus spoke these words, lifted up His eyes to heaven, and said: ‘Father, the hour has come.  Glorify Your Son, that Your Son also may glorify You, as You have given Him authority over all flesh, that He should give eternal life to as many as You have given Him.  And this is eternal life, that they may know You, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom You have sent.  I have glorified You on the earth.  I have finished the work which You have given Me to do.  And now, O Father, glorify Me together with Yourself, with the glory which I had with You before the world was” (John 17:1-5).

Learn From Gideon, 45

~ God Honors Those Who Honor Him ~

The Biblical account of the life of Gideon provides for one of the most interesting character studies in all of Scripture.  In this series we will discover practical lessons for living the Christian life today.

Scripture  ~  Thus Midian was subdued before the children of Israel, so that they lifted their heads no more.  And the country was quiet for 40 years in the days of Gideon” (Judges 8:28).

Learn From Gideon  ~  Gideon was faithful to God and God noticed.
  1. Gideon accomplished the assignment God had given him:  Midian was subdued before the children of Israel.”
  2. God gave the Israelites good times: “the country was quiet for 40 years in the days of Gideon.”
  3. Notice that it was quiet for 40 years.” Throughout Scripture we find the number 40 is associated with full testing, completeness, or full duration—often including the concept of probation (but it is not the purpose of this posting to amplify that).
  4. Notice also the implication was these good times would come to an end after the full probation period—as we will see in future posts in this series.

Challenge For Us  ~  How do you manage the good times?  It is human nature to cry out to God during the tough times.  Can God trust you with success?

concluding comment  ~  We learn about Gideon primarily from Judges 6-8, but also Isaiah 9:1-7, and Hebrews 11:1-3, 32-34.
