~ Jesus Christ Came To Give Life ~

Passages  ~  “Then Jesus said to them again, ‘Most assuredly, I say to you, I am the door of the sheep.  All who ever came before Me are thieves and robbers, but the sheep did not hear them.  I am the door.  If anyone enters by Me, he will be saved, and will go in and out and find pasture.  The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy.  I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly” (John 10:7-10).

“My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me.  And I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; neither shall anyone snatch them out of My hand.  My Father, who has given them to Me, is greater than all; and no one is able to snatch them out of My Father’s hand.  I and My Father are One’” (John 10:27-30).

Significance  ~  “I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly.  ‘I am the Good Shepherd’” (John 10:10-11).

the key question:  “Who do you say that I am?” (Matthew 16:15).  This is the most important question you will ever answer.  If you do not answer it, or answer it incorrectly, you have made the biggest mistake anyone can make!

Myth, 12

~ My Success Is Due To My Spirituality ~

Introduction  ~  Anyone who believes that any success they have accomplished in the spiritual life or work has pride.  Pride is a root of every sin.  “Pride goes before destruction, and a haughty spirit before a fall” (Proverbs 16:18).  Any success we achieve in any area of life is by God’s grace. 

Key Passage  ~  “But now the righteousness of God apart from the law is revealed, being witnessed by the Law and the Prophets, even the righteousness of God, through faith in Jesus Christ, to all and on all who believe.  For there is no difference; for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, being justified freely by His grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus, whom God set forth as a propitiation by His blood, through faith, to demonstrate His righteousness, because in His forbearance God had passed over the sins that were previously committed, to demonstrate at the present time His righteousness, that He might be just and the justifier of the one who has faith in Jesus.

“Where is boasting then?  It is excluded.  By what law?  Of works?  No, but by the law of faith.  Therefore we conclude that a man is justified by faith apart from the deeds of the law” (Romans 3:21-28).

Summary  ~  Your “success” in any area of life is from God.  Your spirituality and any “success” you have in the spiritual arena is only possible because of the finished work of Jesus Christ on the Cross of Calvary.

Fear God, 137

~ The Wisest Man Tells Us Priority One Is To Fear God ~

God does not want His children living in fear.  “Grace and peace be multiplied to you in the knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord, as His divine power has given to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of Him who called us by glory and virtue” (2 Peter 1:2-3).  However, God does want His children to have a proper respect and reverence for Him.  We are told in many places in Scripture to “fear God.”  

This Week’s Passage  ~  “Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear God and keep His commandments, for this is man’s all.  For God will bring every work into judgment, including every secret thing, whether good or evil” (Ecclesiastes 12:13-14).    

Comment  ~  The Book of Ecclesiastes documents Solomon’s quest for happiness and satisfaction.  King Solomon was the wisest man to have lived, with great wealth and prestige.  In the summary of his autobiography he tells us his conclusion regarding finding meaning and satisfaction in life.  “Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear God and keep His commandments, for this is man’s all.” 

Fearing God Results in Salvation  ~  “It is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God” (Hebrews 10:31).  “A wise person fears and departs from evil, but a fool rages and is self-confident” (Proverbs 14:16).  This does not mean the Christian is to live a fearful life—but a life which reverences God and seeks to do His will. 

Fearing God Results in Fearlessness  ~  “The Lord is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear?  The Lord is the strength of my life; of whom shall I be afraid?” (Psalm 27:1).  The answer is: only God.  With the gift of salvation comes responsibility.

Fearing God Results in Witnessing  ~  “Come and hear, all you who fear God, and I will declare what He has done for my soul” (Psalm 66:16).
