Good Leaders Can Generate Church Growth ~
Myth
~ Scripture teaches that God is
the “Lord of the harvest” (Matthew 9:38; Luke 10:2). Christians are workers in His field.
Reality ~
Christians are responsible for obedience – but are not responsible for
the results. “Who then is Paul, and who
is Apollos, but ministers through whom you believed, as the Lord gave to each
one? I planted, Apollos watered, but
God gave the increase. So then
neither he who plants is anything, nor he who waters, but God who gives the increase.
Now he who plants and he who waters are
one, and each one will receive his own reward according to his own labor” (1
Corinthians 3:5-8).
Key Implications
~ (1) There is no room for pride—even
when great things are accomplished. (2)
Spiritual growth is because of a new vision, a new strategy, new goals, the
latest book, or new programs. While these
items may sometimes be tools that are helpful, spiritual growth always comes from
God primarily through the Word of God and the Spirit of God. (3) Many church leaders would spend their
time more effectively in prayer than in developing new methodologies.
