Question – Jesus, 141

 ~ Regarding Thankfulness ~

Introduction  ~  This series is about questions involving Jesus.  Some were asked by individuals involved with Jesus Christ while He walked on earth.  Others are questions that Jesus Christ asked others.  We will look at questions on over 160 topics (some may split into two or more posts).  Even so, it is far from an exhaustive list.

Scripture  ~  “But I say to you who hear: Love your enemies, do good to those who hate you, bless those who curse you, and pray for those who spitefully use you.  To him who strikes you on the one cheek, offer the other also.  And from him who takes away your cloak, do not withhold your tunic either.  Give to everyone who asks of you.  And from him who takes away your goods do not ask them back.  And just as you want men to do to you, you also do to them likewise.

“But if you love those who love you, what credit is that to you?  For even sinners love those who love them.  And if you do good to those who do good to you, what credit is that to you?  For even sinners do the same.  And if you lend to those from whom you hope to receive back, what credit is that to you?  For even sinners lend to sinners to receive as much back.  But love your enemies, do good, and lend, hoping for nothing in return; and your reward will be great, and you will be sons of the Most High.  For He is kind to the unthankful and evil.  Therefore be merciful, just as your Father also is merciful” (Luke 6:27-36).

Fatherless? Fix It!

~ God Is The Father to the Fatherless ~

Reality ~ Unfortunately in today’s world millions of children are fatherless.  This has various realities: in some cases the father is no where to be found while in some cases the father is present but brutal, and still others the father is present but not at all fatherly.

Solution ~ The best possible Father – beyond what you could imagine – wants to be your father!

Scripture ~ “But You [God] have seen, for You observe trouble and grief, to repay it by Your hand.  The helpless commits himself to You; You are the helper of the fatherless” (Psalm 10:14-18).

“Lord, You have heard the desire of the humble; You will prepare their heart; You will cause Your ear to hear, to do justice to the fatherless and the oppressed, that the man of the earth may oppress no more” (Psalm 10:17-18).

“Sing to God, sing praises to His name; extol Him who rides on the clouds, by His name Yah, and rejoice before Him.  A father of the fatherless, a defender of widows, is God in His holy habitation” (Psalm 68:4-5).

“For the Lord your God is God of gods and Lord of lords, the great God, mighty and awesome, who shows no partiality nor takes a bribe.  He administers justice for the fatherless and the widow, and loves the stranger, giving him food and clothing” (Deuteronomy 10:17-19).

Comment ~ God is your Father by creation, but He wants a relationship with you by adopting you into His family as a joint heir of everything.  But you are not in that relationship automatically.  You must admit that you have sinned, that you cannot save yourself, and that you accept His Son’s payment for all your sin (past, present, and future).  If you pray to Him sincerely for cleansing you will receive it.

Called by God, 10

~ The Obedience Call As His Priest ~

Series Note  ~  In this set of postings we will look at the calling of God from three aspects.  First there is the Universal Call to all mankind for salvation.  Second there is the call that all Christians receive—the Obedience Call.  Finally, there is a call which all Christians receive, but sadly few accept, the Career Call.

In the first post in this series, we considered the Universal Call.  In posts 2-5 we look at the new responsibilities for Christians who have accepted the Obedience Call.  In posts 6-12 we examine the new roles of Christians who have accepted the Obedience Call.

Scripture  ~  But you are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, His own special people, that you may proclaim the praises of Him who called you out of darkness into His marvelous light; who once were not a people but are now the people of God, who had not obtained mercy but now have obtained mercy” (1 Peter 2:9-10).

Comment  ~  A prophet speaks for and about God to the people.  A priest speaks to God on behalf of people.  As a believer you have a solemn responsibility to represent the truth of God.  As a royal priest you have a responsibility of intercessory prayer on behalf of others but also to witness of His greatness to those you come in contact with.
