Conscience, 30

~ Realize “You’re In The Army Now” ~

Series Note ~ The conscience plays a crucial role in human behavior.  The Scripture has much to say about our conscience.  In posts 1—20 of this series, we looked at various descriptions of conscience.  In posts 21—25 we looked at the Big Four Emotional factors that have a very negative impact on our consciences.  Finally starting with post 26 we look at dangers to the conscience.

Scripture ~ ”You therefore, my son, be strong in the grace that is in Christ Jesus.  And the things that you have heard from me among many witnesses, commit these to faithful men who will be able to teach others also.  You therefore must endure hardship as a good soldier of Jesus Christ.  No one engaged in warfare entangles himself with the affairs of this life, that he may please him who enlisted him as a soldier” (2 Timothy 2:1-4).

“Since no man knows the future, who can tell him what is to come?  No man has power over the wind to contain it; so no one has power over the day of his death.  As no one is discharged in time of war, so wickedness will not release those who practice it” (Ecclesiastes 8:7-8).

Additional Scripture ~ Paul said, “I considered it necessary to send to you Epaphroditus, my brother, fellow worker, and fellow soldier, but your messenger and the one who ministered to my need” (Philippians 2:25-26).

“To Philemon our beloved friend and fellow laborer, to the beloved Apphia, Archippus our fellow soldier, and to the church in your house: grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ” (Philemon 1-4).

Comment ~ A soldier’s first responsibility is obedience to his or her superiors.  Are you consistently obedient to your Commander – the King of Kings and Lord of Lords?

Quote ~ “Only he who believes is obedient and only he who obeys believes.” –Dietrich Bonhoeffer

Question ~ Are you currently A.W.O.L.?

God Attribute, 41

 ~ God Has A Heart ~

This Series  ~  This series of posts looks at some of the many attributes of God.  Generally, we move in alphabetical order.

Scripture  ~  “Then the Lord saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every intent of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually.  And the Lord wasorry that He had made man on the earth, and He was grieved in His heart” (Genesis 6:5-6).

“And the Lord smelled a soothing aroma.  Then the Lord said in His heart, ‘I will never again curse the ground for man’s sake, although the imagination of man’s heart is evil from his youth; nor will I again destroy every living thing as I have done’” (Genesis 8:21).
