~ Walk The
Talk ~
Series
Introduction ~ The New Testament has much to say about how a believer should
live their life. Christians should never have to guess about the life that
pleases God. In this series we look at a variety of passages that speak about
the Christian walk on earth.
Comment ~ In our
society we have a common saying: You talk the talk, but can you walk the talk?
Essentially this is questioning whether some one is able to make practical
application of their mental knowledge. This is often a challenge!
Scripture ~ Jesus
said, “These things I have spoken to you, that My joy may remain in you, and
that your joy may be full. This is My commandment, that you love one another as
I have loved you. Greater love has no one than this, than to lay down one’s
life for his friends” (John 15:11-13).
“Then
Jesus said to those Jews who believed Him, ‘If you abide in My word, you are My
disciples indeed. And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you
free.’ They answered Him, ‘We are Abraham's descendants, and have never been in
bondage to anyone. How can You say, “You will be made free”?’ Jesus answered
them, ‘Most assuredly, I say to you, whoever commits sin is a slave of sin. And
a slave does not abide in the house forever, but a son abides forever.
Therefore if the Son makes you free, you shall be free indeed” (John 8:31-36).
“By
this we know love, because He laid down His life for us. And we also ought to
lay down our lives for the brethren. But whoever has this world’s goods, and
sees his brother in need, and shuts up his heart from him, how does the love of
God abide in him? My little children, let us not love in word or in tongue, but
in deed and in truth. And by this we know that we are of the truth, and shall
assure our hearts before Him” (1 John 3:16-19).
“Be
doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves. For if anyone is
a hearer of the word and not a doer, he is like a man observing his natural
face in a mirror; for he observes himself, goes away, and immediately forgets
what kind of man he was. But he who looks into the perfect law of liberty and
continues in it, and is not a forgetful hearer but a doer of the work, this one
will be blessed in what he does” (James 1:22-25).
Quote ~ “To walk
with someone means you are aware of their presence. And this is true with
God. If you’re to walk with Him, you
must be continually aware of His presence.” —Kay
Smith (Pleasing God)
