Why Trust God? 109

 ~ God Knows Everything ~

Introduction ~ “Abundant Life Now” previously provided a list of Biblical of examples of fearing / reverencing God (217 posts). In this current series we look at Biblical accounts that demonstrate that we can fully trust God. Initially we posted seven general reasons for trusting God. We are currently looking at passages from all 66 books of Scripture which demonstrate a reason for trusting our Creator.

Scripture ~ “By this we know love, because He laid down His life for us.  And we also ought to lay down our lives for the brethren.  But whoever has this world’s goods, and sees his brother in need, and shuts up his heart from him, how does the love of God abide in him?

“My little children, let us not love in word or in tongue, but in deed and in truth.  And by this we know that we are of the truth, and shall assure our hearts before Him.  For if our heart condemns us, God is greater than our heart, and knows all things.  Beloved, if our heart does not condemn us, we have confidence toward God.  And whatever we ask we receive from Him, because we keep His commandments and do those things that are pleasing in His sight.  And this is His commandment: that we should believe on the name of His Son Jesus Christ and love one another, as He gave us commandment” (1 John 3:16-23).

Remember

~ Freedom Is NOT Free ~

~ Historical ~

President Woodrow Wilson proclaimed a public holiday, Armistice Day, to honor those who died in the terrible conflict we refer to as World War I. He declared this annual remembrance on November 11, 1919 – one year after the end of that brutal war!  It was so horrific it is also known as “The Great War.”

President Wilson’s intent was that the nation would be filled with pride for the heroism of all those who died in service to their country. He intended that Americans would be grateful for the victory. These are his words: “The reflections of Armistice Day will be filled with solemn pride in the heroism of those who died in the country’s service and with gratitude for the victory,”

In 1954 the name was changed from Armistice Day to Veterans Day, to make the day more inclusive honoring all servicemen and women, both past and present.

~ Relevance ~

May you this Veterans Day pause and give thanks to the veterans in your life and those from generations past. Offer gratitude to God for the ones who fought to secure the rights and freedoms we hold dear.

~ Scripture ~

“This is My commandment, that you love one another as I have loved you. Greater love has no one than this, than to lay down one’s life for his friends” (John 15:12-13).

Jesus said, “As the Father knows Me, even so I know the Father; and I lay down My life for the sheep. And other sheep I have which are not of this fold; them also I must bring, and they will hear My voice; and there will be one flock and one shepherd. Therefore My Father loves Me, because I lay down My life that I may take it again. No one takes it from Me, but I lay it down of Myself. I have power to lay it down, and I have power to take it again” (John 10:15-18a).

In Jesus We Have… , 89

 ~ …Glory ~

Introduction ~ In this series we look at a few of the verses which state what we have when we are “in Christ.”  Consider our series theme verse:

“God, who is rich in mercy, because of His great love with which He loved us, even when we were dead in trespasses, made us alive together with Christ (by grace you have been saved), and raised us up together, and made us sit together in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus, that in the ages to come He might show the exceeding riches of His grace in His kindness toward us in Christ Jesus.  For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, not of works, lest anyone should boast.  For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them” (Ephesians 2:4-10).

Scripture ~ “I have reason to glory in Christ Jesus in the things which pertain to God” (Romans 15:17).

Is Christ God? 8of12

~ The Healed Blind Man Called Jesus Christ God! ~

Scripture  ~  “The man answered and said to them, ‘Why, this is a marvelous thing, that you do not know where He is from; yet He has opened my eyes!  Now we know that God does not hear sinners; but if anyone is a worshiper of God and does His will, He hears him.  Since the world began it has been unheard of that anyone opened the eyes of one who was born blind.  If this Man were not from God, He could do nothing.’  They answered and said to him, ‘You were completely born in sins, and are you teaching us?’  And they cast him out.  Jesus heard that they had cast him out; and when He had found him, He said to him, ‘Do you believe in the Son of God?  He answered and said, ‘Who is He, Lord, that I may believe in Him?’  And Jesus said to him, ‘You have both seen Him and it is He who is talking with you.’  Then he said, ‘Lord, I believe!’  And he worshiped Him” (John 9:30-38).

God Attribute, 145

~ Merciful ~

This Series ~ This series of posts looks at some of the many attributes of God.  Generally, we move in alphabetical order.

Introduction ~ It is important to recognize the difference in some key terms.

Grace is getting something good which you don’t deserve.

Justice is getting what you deserve.

Mercy is not getting something bad which you do deserve.

Scripture ~ “You are God, ready to pardon, gracious and merciful, slow to anger, abundant in kindness, and did not forsake them” (Nehemiah 9:17b).

“Gracious is the Lord, and righteous; yes, our God is merciful” (Psalm 116:5).

I [God] will be merciful to their unrighteousness, and their sins and their lawless deeds I will remember no more” (Hebrews 8:12).

Quotes ~ “Suppose ten people sin and sin equally.  Suppose God punishes five of them and is merciful to the other five.  Is this injustice?  No!  In this situation five people get justice and five get mercy.  No one gets injustice.” —R.C. Sproul

“The Lord’s mercy is a sea which cannot be filled, though mountains of sin be cast into its midst.  It is like Noah’s flood, which covers all and drowns even the mountaintops of heaven-defying sins.” —Charles Spurgeon
