Jesus Is…, 27

~ Jesus Christ Is The Basis of Our Faith ~

Passage  ~  “Therefore we also, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which so easily ensnares us, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith, who for the joy that was set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God” (Hebrews 12:1-2).

Significance  ~  What a person believes about the virgin birth of Jesus Christ, His life, His ministry, His character and sinless life, His fully human nature while on earth, His divine nature from forever to forever, His death, His burial, His resurrection, and His ascension back to heaven (i.e., the basis of the Gospel of Jesus Christ) is what matters.  If a person gets this right and understands the significance of it by accepting Christ as their Savior—then they are bound to heaven.

Comment  ~  The basic truths about Jesus Christ are what separates cults from true Christianity.

the key question:  “Who do you say that I am?” (Matthew 16:15).  This is the most important question you will ever answer.  If you do not answer it, or answer it incorrectly, you have made the biggest mistake anyone can make!

Fact Check, 47

~ Everything Works Out Good ~

Bible Quotation?  ~  “All things work together for good.

The Bible Says  ~  “We know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose.  For whom He foreknew, He also predestined to be conformed to the image of His Son, that He might be the firstborn among many brethren.  Moreover whom He predestined, these He also called; whom He called, these He also justified; and whom He justified, these He also glorified” (Romans 8:28-30).

The Significance  ~  Half-truths are often lies.  The context of this passage with regard to true believers in Jesus Christ.  The focus is on the long-term—Christians will one day be glorified and live eternally with Jesus Christ.

Comment  ~  If you do not know Jesus Christ as your personal Savior then this passage does not apply to you.  Jesus said, “Not everyone who says to Me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ shall enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father in heaven.  Many will say to Me in that day, ‘Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in Your name, cast out demons in Your name, and done many wonders in Your name?’  And then I will declare to them, ‘I never knew you; depart from Me, you who practice lawlessness!’” (Matthew 7:21-23).  If you do know Jesus Christ then no matter what your circumstances you can live confidently regarding your ultimate future.

Learn From Gideon, 11

~ God Goes With His People Into Battle, 2 ~

The Biblical account of the life of Gideon provides for one of the most interesting character studies in all of Scripture.  In this series we will discover practical lessons for living the Christian life today.

Scripture  ~  “And the Lord said to Gideon, ‘Surely I will be with you, and you shall defeat the Midianites as one man’” (Judges 6:16).

Learn From Gideon  ~  You and God are a majority!
  1. God accompanies His people on any mission He gives them.
  2. God sees Gideon as he will be—not as he is.
  3. These first two principles are alive and well today.  Jesus told His disciples, “Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.  Amen” (Matthew 28:19-20).
  4. In this particular situation God even assures Gideon of victory!

concluding comment  ~  We learn about Gideon primarily from Judges 6-8, but also Isaiah 9:1-7, and Hebrews 11:1-3, 32-34.
