~ The Results of Hearing ~
What Samuel Had to Say
~ “So Samuel said: ‘Has the Lord
as great delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices, as in obeying the voice of
the Lord? Behold, to obey is better than sacrifice, and to heed than the fat of rams. For rebellion is as the sin of witchcraft,
and stubbornness is as iniquity and idolatry.
Because you have rejected the Word of the Lord, He also has rejected you
from being king’” (1 Samuel 15:22-23).
Hearing Brings Spiritual Life
~ “Ho! Everyone who thirsts, come to the waters; and
you who have no money, come, buy and eat.
Yes, come, buy wine and milk without money and without price. Why do you spend money for what is not bread,
and your wages for what does not satisfy?
Listen carefully to Me, and
eat what is good, and let your soul delight itself in abundance. Incline
your ear, and come to Me. Hear, and your soul shall live; and I
will make an everlasting covenant with you—the sure mercies of David. Indeed I have given him as a witness to the
people, a leader and commander for the people.
Surely you shall call a nation you do not know, and nations who do not
know you shall run to you, because of the Lord your God, and the Holy One of
Israel; for He has glorified you” (Isaiah 55:1-5).
Results of Hearing
~ “Incline your ear and hear the words of the wise, and apply your
heart to my knowledge; for it is a pleasant thing if you keep them within you;
let them all be fixed upon your lips, so
that your trust may be in the Lord; I have instructed you today, even
you. Have I not written to you excellent
things of counsels and knowledge, that I may make you know the certainty of the
words of truth, that you may answer words of truth to those who send to you?”
(Proverbs 22:17-21).
Truly Hearing Produces Fruit ~ “But
these are the ones sown on good ground, those
who hear the word, accept it, and bear fruit: some thirtyfold, some sixty,
and some a hundred.” (Mark 4:20).
What Are the Results of Not Responding
to Hearing Truth? ~ “For
Moses truly said to the fathers, ‘The Lord your God will raise up for you a
Prophet like me from your brethren. Him
you shall hear in all things, whatever He says to you. And it shall be that every soul who will not hear that Prophet shall be utterly destroyed
from among the people.’ Yes, and all
the prophets, from Samuel and those who follow, as many as have spoken, have
also foretold these days. You are sons
of the prophets, and of the covenant which God made with our fathers, saying to
Abraham, ‘And in your seed all the families of the earth shall be
blessed.’ To you first, God, having
raised up His Servant Jesus, sent Him to bless you, in turning away every one
of you from your iniquities” (Acts 3:22-26).
