Christian Action, 36of39

~ Feed Your Enemies ~

Series Note  ~  In just the single chapter of Romans 12 the Apostle Paul gave believers a list of 39 things which are part of the Christian life which pleases God.  This chapter is crying out saying, “If you name Jesus Christ as your Savior then please act like a Christian!  It is Paul’s “To Do List” for us.  The key principle is that while you and I cannot change God’s character (who He really is) we have the clear potential to damage His reputation (what others think He is).

Scripture to Meditate On  ~  “Therefore ‘if your enemy is hungry, feed him’” (Romans 12:20a).

Comment  ~  This passage is about meeting the physical needs of others—friend or foe.  A close examination of Christ’s ministries while on earth will show that He almost always responded to physical needs before addressing the spiritual needs.

Related Passages  ~  Consider the story of the Good Samaritan.  “Then Jesus answered and said: ‘A certain man went down from Jerusalem to Jericho, and fell among thieves, who stripped him of his clothing, wounded him, and departed, leaving him half dead.  Now by chance a certain priest came down that road.  And when he saw him, he passed by on the other side.  Likewise a Levite, when he arrived at the place, came and looked, and passed by on the other side.  But a certain Samaritan, as he journeyed, came where he was.  And when he saw him, he had compassion.  So he went to him and bandaged his wounds, pouring on oil and wine; and he set him on his own animal, brought him to an inn, and took care of him.  On the next day, when he departed, he took out two denarii, gave them to the innkeeper, and said to him, “Take care of him; and whatever more you spend, when I come again, I will repay you.”  So which of these three do you think was neighbor to him who fell among the thieves?’  And he said, ‘He who showed mercy on him.’  Then Jesus said to him, ‘Go and do likewise’” (Luke 10:30-37).

“But whoever has this world’s goods, and sees his brother in need, and shuts up his heart from him, how does the love of God abide in him?” (1 John 3:17).

While taking care of physical needs is important it is more vital that we point others to the only way they can satisfy their spiritual needs.

“Most assuredly, I say to you, he who believes in Me has everlasting life.  I am the bread of life.  Your fathers ate the manna in the wilderness, and are dead.  This is the bread which comes down from heaven, that one may eat of it and not die.  I am the living bread which came down from heaven.  If anyone eats of this bread, he will live forever; and the bread that I shall give is My flesh, which I shall give for the life of the world” (John 6:47-51).

“How sweet are Your words to my taste, sweeter than honey to my mouth!” (Psalm 119:103).

Jesus Was…, 9

~ Jesus Christ Was Witnessed by His Works ~

Passages  ~  Jesus said, answered them, “The works that I do in My Father’s name, they bear witness of Me” (John 10:25b).

“If I [Jesus Christ] bear witness of Myself, My witness is not true.  There is another who bears witness of Me, and I know that the witness which He witnesses of Me is true.  You have sent to John, and he has borne witness to the truth.  Yet I do not receive testimony from man, but I say these things that you may be saved.  He was the burning and shining lamp, and you were willing for a time to rejoice in his light.  But I have a greater witness than John’s; for the works which the Father has given Me to finish—the very works that I do—bear witness of Me, that the Father has sent Me.  And the Father Himself, who sent Me, has testified of Me.  You have neither heard His voice at any time, nor seen His form.  But you do not have His word abiding in you, because whom He sent, Him you do not believe.  You search the Scriptures, for in them you think you have eternal life; and these are they which testify of Me.  But you are not willing to come to Me that you may have life” (John 5:31-40).

Comment  ~  His work on earth is not finished.  Currently Jesus Christ is in heaven functioning as the chief counsel and cheerleader for all His believers on earth.  “My little children, these things I write to you, so that you may not sin.  And if anyone sins, we have an Advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous” (1 John 2:1).

He is also preparing our final home, “In My Father’s house are many mansions; if it were not so, I would have told you.  I go to prepare a place for you.  And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you to Myself; that where I am, there you may be also” (John 14:2-3).

the key question:  “Who do you say that I am?” (Matthew 16:15).  This is the most important question you will ever answer.  If you do not answer it, or answer it incorrectly, you have made the biggest mistake anyone can make!

Salvation, 26

~ The Romans Road, 1of7 ~

Salvation is not a Reward for the Righteous.
It is an available Gift for those who understand their Guilt!

Introduction  ~  The “Romans Road” is a generic term for the Gospel of Jesus Christ found (often presented in sequential form) through the Book of Romans.  It has been around for decades and exists in various forms—containing slightly different selections of verses from the Book of Romans.  In this series we look in this post at an overview of the Romans Road.  The following five posts will answer key questions raised by the Romans Road.  The last post in this series will deal with the personal significance of this series.

We Are ALL Sinners  ~  “As it is written: ‘There is none righteous, no, not one; there is none who understands; there is none who seeks after God.  They have all turned aside; they have together become unprofitable; there is none who does good, no, not one.    For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God” (Romans 3:10-12, 23).

God Loves ALL Of Us  ~  “But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us” (Romans 5:8).

We ALL Deserve Death  ~  “For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord” (Romans 6:23).

God Offers Us ALL Forgiveness  ~  If you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.  For with the heart one believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.    For ‘whoever calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved’” (Romans 10:9-10, 13).

Salvation through Jesus Christ brings us into a relationship of peace with God.

We Can ALL Have Peace  ~  “Therefore, having been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ” (Romans 5:1-2).  “There is therefore now no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus, who do not walk according to the flesh, but according to the Spirit” (Romans 8:1).  “For I am persuaded that neither death nor life, nor angels nor principalities nor powers, nor things present nor things to come, nor height nor depth, nor any other created thing, shall be able to separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord” (Romans 8:38-39).
