~ The Necessity of Discipline ~
Series
Note
~ A constant reality is that it takes effort to develop and maintain good
habits. Unfortunately; we effortlessly develop bad habits.
To
combat this fact of mankind’s fallen nature requires consistent effort. This is
why personal discipline is vitally important. Simply stated the bottom-line is
that to fulfill our responsibility to become increasingly Christ-like we must
exercise continual discipline.
Scripture ~ “Exercise
yourself toward godliness. For bodily exercise profits a little, but godliness
is profitable for all things, having promise of the life that now is and of
that which is to come” (1 Timothy 4:7b-8).
Quote
~ “The purpose of parental discipline is to produce obedience. God disciplines
His children to produce holiness, that is spiritual obedience which produces
righteousness and conformity to the image of Christ. The Hebrew writer put it
this way: “Our fathers disciplined us for a little while as they thought best;
but God disciplines us for our own good, that we may share in His holiness. No
discipline seems pleasant at the time, but painful. Later on, however, it
produces a harvest of righteousness and peace for those who have been trained
by it” (Hebrews 12:10-11). —"GOD’S CHILD: Like a Tree” by Robert
