Christ Listens, 2of2

~ Are You Listening to Your Savior’s Feedback? ~

Passage  ~  “Then the apostles gathered to Jesus and told Him all things, both what they had done and what they had taught.  And He said to them, ‘Come aside by yourselves to a deserted place and rest a while.’  For there were many coming and going, and they did not even have time to eat.  So they departed to a deserted place in the boat by themselves” (Mark 6:30-32).

Applications  ~  By keeping in daily and constant communication with our Savior we are better positioned for direct feedback and instruction.  Sometimes the Godliest thing we can do is to take a break.

“Call to Me, and I will answer you, and show you great and mighty things, which you do not know” (Jeremiah 33:3).

Ramifications  ~  Jesus Christ has no favorites!  For example see Job 34:19, Ephesians 6:9, and Colossians 3:25.  But, and this is the important thing, Jesus Christ allows intimacy with Him for everyone who desires it.  For example, Job cried out, “Oh, for the days when I was in my prime, when God’s intimate friendship blessed my house” (Job 29:4 niv).  Think about it:  You can choose to be intimate with your Savior, with the Creator of the universe, with God Himself!

the key question:  “Who do you say that I am?” (Matthew 16:15).  This is the most important question you will ever answer.  If you do not answer it, or answer it incorrectly, you have made the biggest mistake anyone can make!

~ The 66 Books of the Bible Are In Distinct Subject Categories ~

Overview  ~  The 66 Books of the Holy Bible can be considered as grouped by subject category.  What follows are two typical ways of looking at the individual books—while similar to each other they do have significant differences.

The Pentateuch (Genesis through Deuteronomy) – 5 books
Historical Books (Joshua through Esther) – 12
Poetical Books (Job through Song of Solomon) – 5
Prophetical Books:
  • Major Prophets (Isaiah through Daniel) – 5
  • Minor Prophets (Hosea through Malachi) – 12
Historical Books (Matthew through Acts) – 5
Didactical [Teaching] (Romans through Jude) – 21
Prophetical (Revelation) – 1 book

Law (The Pentateuch: Genesis through Deuteronomy) – 5 books
History (Joshua through Esther) – 12
Poetry (Job through Song of Solomon) – 5
Major Prophets (Isaiah through Daniel) – 5
Minor Prophets (Hosea through Malachi) – 12
The Gospels (Matthew through John) – 4
History (Acts) – 1
Epistles to Churches (Romans through 2 Thessalonians) – 9
Epistles to Friends (1 Timothy through Philemon) – 4

Comment  ~  While there are 66 books, there is only one story—the story of The Messiah.  From Genesis to Revelation the Holy Bible is about Jesus Christ and the redemption which only He provides.

Fear God, 61

~ Fear of God Provides Wisdom ~

God does not want His children living in fear.  “Grace and peace be multiplied to you in the knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord, as His divine power has given to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of Him who called us by glory and virtue” (2 Peter 1:2-3).  However, God does want His children to have a proper respect and reverence for Him.  We are told in many places in Scripture to “fear God.”

This Week’s Passage  ~  “And to man He said, ‘Behold, the fear of the Lord, that is wisdom, and to depart from evil is understanding’” (Job 28:28).

Fearing God Results in Salvation  ~  It is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God” (Hebrews 10:31).  A wise person fears and departs from evil, but a fool rages and is self-confident” (Proverbs 14:16).  This does not mean the Christian is to live a fearful life—but a life which reverences God and seeks to do His will.

Fearing God Results in Fearlessness  ~  “The Lord is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear?  The Lord is the strength of my life; of whom shall I be afraid?” (Psalm 27:1).  The answer is: only God.  With the gift of salvation comes responsibility.

Fearing God Results in Witnessing  ~  “Come and hear, all you who fear God, and I will declare what He has done for my soul” (Psalm 66:16).
