Jesus Christ Was Before All Things ~
Passages ~ “Jesus
Christ is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation. For by Him all things were created that are
in heaven and that are on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or
dominions or principalities or powers.
All things were created through Him and for Him. And He
is before all things, and in Him all things consist. And He is the head of the body, the church,
who is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead, that in all things He may
have the preeminence” (Colossians 1:15-18).
“In the beginning was the Word [Jesus Christ], and the Word
was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. All things were made through Him, and without
Him nothing was made that was made. In
Him was life, and the life was the light of men. And the light shines in the darkness, and the
darkness did not comprehend it” (John 1:1-5).
Comment ~ Jesus
Christ was involved in creation—as were all three members of the Trinity. “In
the beginning God created the heavens
and the earth” (Genesis 1:1). “God” is plural in the original language! Later in this first chapter of the Bible we
find this plural reference to the God
of creation, “Let Us make man in Our own image according to Our likeness…” (Genesis 1:26).
In Genesis
1:2 we read, “The Spirit of God” was involved
in creation. “The
earth was without form, and void; and darkness was on the face of the deep. And the
Spirit of God was hovering over the face of the waters” (Genesis 1:2).
In
Psalm 33:4 we find, “By the Word of the Lord [Yahweh or Jehovah] the heavens were made, and all the host
of them by the breath of His mouth…”
In John 1:1
we read, “In the beginning was the Word [Jesus
Christ]…” In Colossians we find that
Jesus Christ was/is key both in
Creation and also the sustaining of the Creation. “For by
Him [Jesus Christ] all things were created that are in heaven and that are
on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or principalities
or powers. All things were created through Him and for Him. And He is before all things, and in Him all things consist” (Colossians
1:16-17).
the key question:
“Who do you say that I am?”
(Matthew 16:15). This is the most
important question you will ever answer. If you do not answer it, or answer it
incorrectly, you have made the biggest mistake anyone can make!
