~ Keys 3of3: Competence
~
Series Note ~ A constant reality is that it takes effort to develop and maintain good habits. Unfortunately; we effortlessly develop bad habits.
To
combat this fact of mankind’s fallen nature requires consistent effort. This is
why personal discipline is vitally important. Simply stated the bottom-line is
that to fulfill our responsibility to become increasingly Christ-like we must
exercise continual discipline.
Scripture ~ “And He Himself gave some to be apostles, some prophets, some
evangelists, and some pastors and teachers, for the equipping of the saints for
the work of ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ, till we all come
to the unity of the faith and of the knowledge of the Son of God, to a perfect
man, to the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ” (Ephesians 4:11-13).
Comments ~ Part of a well-disciplined life is intentional effort (training)
or our competencies. At our natural birth we receive grace gifts in the
form of natural abilities. At the time of our “born again” experience we
receive additional and/or enhanced gifts in the form of spiritual gifts.
In
both cases it takes effort and hard work to develop those grace gifts. Note
also, while our natural abilities are to aid our functioning in society our
spiritual gifts are given for effective functioning in the church.
