~ Prayer ~
Series
Note
~ A constant reality is that it takes effort to develop and maintain good
habits. Unfortunately; we effortlessly develop bad habits.
To
combat this fact of mankind’s fallen nature requires consistent effort. This is
why personal discipline is vitally important. Simply stated the bottom-line is
that to fulfill our responsibility to become increasingly Christ-like we must
exercise continual discipline.
Scripture ~ “Praying
always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, being watchful to this
end with all perseverance and supplication for all the saints” (Ephesians 6:24).
“Therefore
we also pray always for you that our God would count you worthy of this
calling, and fulfill all the good pleasure of His goodness and the work of
faith with power, that the name of our Lord Jesus Christ may be glorified in
you, and you in Him, according to the grace of our God and the Lord Jesus
Christ” (2 Thessalonians 1:11-12).
“Rejoice
always, pray without ceasing, in everything give thanks; for this is the
will of God in Christ Jesus for you” (1 Thessalonians 5:16-18).
Comment
~ Prayer is as much for us as for God. Over time it helps bring our will into
alignment with God’s will for us. Prayer is our source of power and provides
persistence in doing what God desires us to do. In today’s world we need to be
consistently looking up to the source of our strength and sanity.
Nebuchadnezzar
should be an example to us: “At the end of that time, I, Nebuchadnezzar, raised
my eyes toward heaven, and my sanity was restored. Then I praised the Most
High; I honored and glorified him who lives forever” (Daniel 4:34 niv).
“At the
same time that my sanity was restored, my honor and splendor were returned to
me for the glory of my kingdom. My advisers and nobles sought me out, and I
was restored to my throne and became even greater than before. Now I,
Nebuchadnezzar, praise and exalt and glorify the King of heaven, because
everything he does is right and all his ways are just. And those who walk in
pride He is able to humble” (Daniel 4:36-37 niv).
