Fact Check, 9

~ Unworthy ~

Your Thinking  ~  I’m unworthy.

God’s Answer  ~  God is in the process of sanctifying you (He is setting you apart—growing you—in righteousness).  During this process God sees you as He sees His only Son—as righteous.  During this process you are becoming more like your Savior.  It is as if you are covered from head to toe with Christ’s righteousness.  In a future day He will glorify you.

“Let us walk properly, as in the day, not in revelry and drunkenness, not in lewdness and lust, not in strife and envy.  But put on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make no provision for the flesh, to fulfill its lusts” (Romans 13:13-14).

“But you have not so learned Christ, if indeed you have heard Him and have been taught by Him, as the truth is in Jesus: that you put off, concerning your former conduct, the old man which grows corrupt according to the deceitful lusts, and be renewed in the spirit of your mind, and that you put on the new man which was created according to God, in true righteousness and holiness” (Ephesians 4:20-24).

For you are all sons of God through faith in Christ Jesus.  For as many of you as were baptized into Christ have put on Christ” (Galatians 3:26-27).

“Since you have put off the old man with his deeds, and have put on the new man who is renewed in knowledge according to the image of Him who created him” (Colossians 3:9b-10).

Fear God, 75

~ Blessings Come to Those Who Fear God ~

God does not want His children living in fear.  “Grace and peace be multiplied to you in the knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord, as His divine power has given to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of Him who called us by glory and virtue” (2 Peter 1:2-3).  However, God does want His children to have a proper respect and reverence for Him.  We are told in many places in Scripture to “fear God.”

This Week’s Passage  ~  “Oh, taste and see that the Lord is good; blessed is the man who trusts in Him!  Oh, fear the Lord, you His saints!  There is no want to those who fear Him.  The young lions lack and suffer hunger; but those who seek the Lord shall not lack any good thing” (Psalm 34:8-10).

Fearing God Results in Salvation  ~  It is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God” (Hebrews 10:31).  A wise person fears and departs from evil, but a fool rages and is self-confident” (Proverbs 14:16).  This does not mean the Christian is to live a fearful life—but a life which reverences God and seeks to do His will.

Fearing God Results in Fearlessness  ~  “The Lord is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear?  The Lord is the strength of my life; of whom shall I be afraid?” (Psalm 27:1).  The answer is: only God.  With the gift of salvation comes responsibility.

Fearing God Results in Witnessing  ~  “Come and hear, all you who fear God, and I will declare what He has done for my soul” (Psalm 66:16).

Long & Short, 2of4

~ Time Is A Momentary Phenomena ~

Because our activities are controlled by “time” we tend to think in the short-term.

introduction:  Time—all time—is just an indistinguishable dot on the timeline of eternity (the phrase "timeline of eternity" is an oxymoron).  God is beyond the constraints of time in both eternity-past and eternity-future.  In this short series we will look at four critical aspects of this reality.

Time Is Very Short  ~  “This I say, brethren, the time is short, so that from now on even those who have wives should be as though they had none, those who weep as though they did not weep, those who rejoice as though they did not rejoice, those who buy as though they did not possess, and those who use this world as not misusing it.  For the form of this world is passing away” (1 Corinthians 7:29-31).  The world is passing away, and the lust of it; but he who does the will of God abides forever” (1 John 2:17).

God Is Beyond Time  ~  Before the mountains were brought forth, or ever You had formed the earth and the world, even from everlasting to everlasting, You are God.  You turn man to destruction, and say, ‘Return, O children of men.’  For a thousand years in Your sight are like yesterday when it is past, and like a watch in the night” (Psalm 90:2-4).  Now to the King eternal, immortal, invisible, to God who alone is wise, be honor and glory forever and ever.  Amen” (1 Timothy 1:17).

concluding thought:  Are you sacrificing the eternal on the altar of the immediate?
