10 Commandments Today, 14of14

~ Notice the Introversion of the Ten Commandments ~

The Introversion  ~  The Ten Commandments contain a beautiful symmetry:

A.  Commands 1-2 – THOUGHT
     B.  Command 3 – WORD
          C.  Commands 4-5 – DEED
The first 5 commandments are built around the phrase “the Lord your God.”

The last 5 commandments are built around the word “you.”
          C.  Commands 6-7-8 – DEED
     B.  Command 9 – WORD
A.  Command 10 – THOUGHT

The Scripture  ~  In the Ten Commandments (Exodus 20:2-17) the first five commands are built around the concept of “the Lord your God.”

Thought  ~  [1] I am the Lord your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage.  You shall have no other gods before Me.  [2] You shall not make for yourself a carved image—any likeness of anything that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth; you shall not bow down to them nor serve them.  For I, the Lord your God, am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children to the third and fourth generations of those who hate Me, but showing mercy to thousands, to those who love Me and keep My commandments.

Word  ~  [3] You shall not take the name of the Lord your God in vain, for the Lord will not hold him guiltless who takes His name in vain.

Deed  ~  [4] Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy.  Six days you shall labor and do all your work, but the seventh day is the Sabbath of the Lord your God.  In it you shall do no work: you, nor your son, nor your daughter, nor your male servant, nor your female servant, nor your cattle, nor your stranger who is within your gates.  For in six days the Lord made the heavens and the earth, the sea, and all that is in them, and rested the seventh day.  Therefore the Lord blessed the Sabbath day and hallowed it.  [5] Honor your father and your mother, that your days may be long upon the land which the Lord your God is giving you.

The second five commands are built around the concept of “you.”

Deed  ~  [6] You shall not murder.  [7] You shall not commit adultery.  [8] You shall not steal.

Word  ~  [9] You shall not bear false witness against your neighbor.

Thought  ~  [10] You shall not covet your neighbor’s house; you shall not covet your neighbor’s wife, nor his male servant, nor his female servant, nor his ox, nor his donkey, nor anything that is your neighbor’s.

Come To Salvation  ~  “‘Come now, and let us reason together,’ says the Lord,Though your sins are like scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they are red like crimson, they shall be as wool’” (Isaiah 1:18).

Come Securely Inside  ~  Come, my people, enter your chambers, and shut your doors behind you; hide yourself, as it were, for a little moment, until the indignation is past.  For behold, the Lord comes out of His place to punish the inhabitants of the earth for their iniquity; the earth will also disclose her blood, and will no more cover her slain” (Isaiah 26:20-21).

Come To The Water of Life  ~  Ho!  Everyone who thirsts, come to the waters” (Isaiah 55:1a).  “Jesus answered and said to her, ‘If you knew the gift of God, and who it is who says to you, “Give Me a drink,” you would have asked Him, and He would have given you living water’” (John 4:10).

Come Out and Be Separate  ~  “Therefore ‘Come out from among them and be separate, says the Lord.  Do not touch what is unclean, and I will receive you.  I will be a Father to you, and you shall be My sons and daughters, says the Lord Almighty’” (2 Corinthians 6:17-18).

Come Out of Babylon  ~  And I heard another voice from heaven saying, ‘Come out of her, my people, lest you share in her sins, and lest you receive of her plagues’” (Revelation 18:4).

Come To Heaven  ~  “After these things I looked, and behold, a door standing open in heaven.  And the first voice which I heard was like a trumpet speaking with me, saying, ‘Come up here, and I will show you things which must take place after this’” (Revelation 4:1).

Life, 5of5

~ Never-Ending Life With God ~

Scripture  ~  “And I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; neither shall anyone snatch them out of My hand.  My Father, who has given them to Me, is greater than all; and no one is able to snatch them out of My Father’s hand.  I and My Father are one” (John 10:28-30).

“As Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the Son of Man be lifted up, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have eternal life.  For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.  For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved” (John 3:14-17).

“And this is the testimony: that God has given us eternal life, and this life is in His Son.  He who has the Son has life; he who does not have the Son of God does not have life.  These things I have written to you who believe in the name of the Son of God, that you may know that you have eternal life, and that you may continue to believe in the name of the Son of God” (1 John 5:11-13).

Amazing Grace  ~  The great hymn by John Newton says it well:  Amazing grace!  How sweet the sound that saved a wretch like me!    When we’ve been there ten thousand years, bright shining as the sun, we’ve no less days to sing God’s praise than when we’d first begun.”
