Revelation of God, 4of7

~ Special Revelation, 2of3 ~

7-Step Progressive Revelation  ~  The word revelation essentially means revealing.  God has, is, and will, reveal Himself to man in seven distinctive stages.  This progression occurs during three distinct major categories: General (or Natural) Revelation, Special Revelation, and Applied Revelation.  This series will focus on this unfolding seven step progression.

Special Revelation  ~   Special Revelation refers to God intervening in man’s life on earth in ways that provide more specific information about God than can be obtained from just General Revelation.

4—Jesus Christ—The Living Word (The Center Point of History)  ~  “And the Word [Jesus Christ] became flesh and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth” (John 1:14).

Jesus said, “I and My Father are one” (John 10:30).

“Jesus said to him, ‘Have I been with you so long, and yet you have not known Me, Philip?  He who has seen Me has seen the Father; so how can you say, “Show us the Father”?  Do you not believe that I am in the Father, and the Father in Me?  The words that I speak to you I do not speak on My own authority; but the Father who dwells in Me does the works.  Believe Me that I am in the Father and the Father in Me, or else believe Me for the sake of the works themselves’” (John 14:9-11).

Comment  ~  Jesus Christ is the center point of history in many ways—the most obvious being our calendars being numbered as Before Christ (b.c.) and Anno Domini (a.d.) which means “in the year of our Lord” in Medieval Latin.  An interesting side note is that Jesus Christ is also the center point of the seven steps of divine revelation that we are considering in this blog series.

Christian Action, 25of39

~ Genuinely Share The Victories of Others ~

Series Note  ~  In just the single chapter of Romans 12 the Apostle Paul gave believers a list of 39 things which are part of the Christian life which pleases God.  This chapter is crying out saying, “If you name Jesus Christ as your Savior then please act like a Christian!  It is Paul’s “To Do List” for us.  The key principle is that while you and I cannot change God’s character (who He really is) we have the clear potential to damage His reputation (what others think He is).

Scripture to Meditate On  ~  Rejoice with those who rejoice” (Romans 12:15a).

Related Passages  ~  Jesus said, “What man of you, having a hundred sheep, if he loses one of them, does not leave the ninety-nine in the wilderness, and go after the one which is lost until he finds it?  And when he has found it, he lays it on his shoulders, rejoicing.  And when he comes home, he calls together his friends and neighbors, saying to them, ‘Rejoice with me, for I have found my sheep which was lost!’  I say to you that likewise there will be more joy in heaven over one sinner who repents than over ninety-nine just persons who need no repentance” (Luke 15:4-7).

Jesus Is…, 57

~ Jesus Christ Is Our Righteousness ~

Passage  ~  “But of Him you are in Christ Jesus, who became for us wisdom from God — and righteousness and sanctification and redemption — that, as it is written, ‘He who glories, let him glory in the Lord’” (1 Corinthians 1:30-31).

Significance  ~  Those who are Christians are seen by God as covered with His Son’s righteousness.  When God the Father looks at a believer He sees the righteousness of Jesus Christ totally enveloping His child.  The critical aspect of this to know, remember, and praise God for is that the Christian did nothing to earn his or her position in the family of God.  All other religions in the world have a significant aspect of earning salvation through doing some things.  In contrast Christianity tells the truth that man cannot earn anything with God, but the Good News is that Christ has paid all the penalty and salvation is done—accomplished!  The only requirement is to accept the free gift which God offers you!

Comment  ~  It may be helpful to compare two theological terms.
JUSTICE – The attribute of God that reveals His hatred of sin.
RIGHTEOUSNESS – The attribute of God that reveals His love of holiness.

the key question:  “Who do you say that I am?” (Matthew 16:15).  This is the most important question you will ever answer.  If you do not answer it, or answer it incorrectly, you have made the biggest mistake anyone can make!
