God Is My… (Psalms), 50

~ God Is My Defense ~

Introduction  ~  Previously from July 16, 2017 through January 6, 2019 ALN posted a series of 60 posts of “Jesus is…,” and now we look exclusively at who “God is…” from the Book of Psalms.  While not a complete list these posts occur are in the same order they are in the Psalms.

Passage  ~  “My soul, wait silently for God alone, for my expectation is from Him.  He only is my rock and my salvation; He is my defense; I shall not be moved.  In God is my salvation and my glory; the rock of my strength, and my refuge, is in God” (Psalm 62:5-7).

Myth, 85

 ~ Scientists Don’t Believe In A Creator ~

Myth  ~  This myth is propagated by a minority but highly vocal group within the scientific community with an agenda they want to push.  In contrast a great many of the world’s best scientific minds have and do believe in a Creator.

Examples  ~  The quotes which follow are just a fraction of the beliefs of some of the world’s greatest scientists.

Albert Einstein: “I do see the design of the universe as essentially a religious question, that is, one should have some kind of respect and awe for the whole business.  It is very magnificent and shouldn’t be taken for granted.” … “Something deeply hidden had to be behind things.”  (The reason Einstein (1879-1955) rejected organized religion was that he felt God was not accredited the majesty and awe that He was due. The religions of his day typically did not give proper respect to the Author of Life and Creator of the Universe.)

Werner Heisenberg (the father of Quantum Physics): “The first gulp from the glass of natural sciences may make you an atheist, but at that bottom of the glass, God is waiting for you.”

Lord William Kelvin: “If you study science deep enough and long enough, it will force you to believe in God.”

Dr. John Lennox (Professor of Mathematics, Oxford University): “The more we get to know about our universe, the more the hypothesis about a Creator gains in credibility as the best explanation of why we are here.”

Isaac Newton: “This most beautiful system of the sun, planets, and comets, could only proceed from the counsel and dominion of an intelligent and powerful Being.” … “Gravity explains the motions of the planets, but it cannot explain Who set the planets in motion.  God governs all things and knows all that is or can be done.”

Consider This  ~  G.K. Chesterton stated: “If there were no God there would be not atheists.”  Think about that statement!  There are no zealots against the tooth fairy, the Easter bunny, and so forth because most adults know they are not real.

Rational Thinking  ~  Who is more irrational?  The guy who believes in a God he cannot see or the guy who is offended by a God he doesn’t believe in?

Atheists can admit that automobiles and computers were intelligently designed, but they refuse to admit the human body was!

Fear God, 209

 ~ Old Testament Examples ~

God does not want His children living in fear.  “Grace and peace be multiplied to you in the knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord, as His divine power has given to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of Him who called us by glory and virtue” (2 Peter 1:2-3).  However, God does want His children to have a proper respect and reverence for Him.  We are told in many places in Scripture to “fear God.”
