Christ: His Words

~ The Incredible Power of His Words! ~

Passage  ~  “No man ever spoke like this man!” (John 7:46).

His Words Offer Peace and Comfort  ~  Jesus said, “Peace I leave with you, My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you.  Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid” (John 14:27).  “May the God of patience and comfort grant you to be like-minded toward one another, according to Christ Jesus” (Romans 15:5).

His Words Heal Physical Infirmities  ~  “Then Jesus came to Bethsaida; and they brought a blind man to Him, and begged Him to touch him.  So He took the blind man by the hand and led him out of the town.  And when He had spit on his eyes and put H’s hands on him, He asked him if he saw anything.  And he looked up and said, "I see men like trees, walking.’  Then He put His hands on his eyes again and made him look up.  And he was restored and saw everyone clearly’ (Mark 8:22-25).  “Suddenly, a woman who had a flow of blood for twelve years came from behind and touched the hem of His garment.  For she said to herself, ‘If only I may touch His garment, I shall be made well.’  But Jesus turned around, and when He saw her He said, ‘Be of good cheer, daughter; your faith has made you well.’  And the woman was made well from that hour” (Matthew 9:20-22).

His Words Have Power Over Life and Death  ~  “Now when Jesus had said these things, He cried with a loud voice, ‘Lazarus, come forth!’  And he who had died came out bound hand and foot with grave clothes, and his face was wrapped with a cloth. Jesus said to them, ‘Loose him, and let him go’ (John 11:43-44).

His Words Have Power Over the Forces of Evil  ~  You believe that there is one God.  You do well.  Even the demons believe — and tremble!” (James 2:19).

His Words Have Power Over Material Objects  ~  “Jesus said to them, ‘Fill the water pots with water.’  And they filled them up to the brim.  And He said to them, ‘Draw some out now, and take it to the master of the feast.’  And they took it.  When the master of the feast had tasted the water that was made wine, and did not know where it came from (but the servants who had drawn the water knew), the master of the feast called the bridegroom” (John 2:7-9).

His Words Have Power Over Creation  ~  “Jesus said to them, ‘Why are you fearful, O you of little faith?’  Then He arose and rebuked the winds and the sea, and there was a great calm.  So the men marveled, saying, ‘Who can this be, that even the winds and the sea obey Him?’” (Matthew 8:26-27).

Conclusion  ~  His words have the same power right now.  “Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever” (Hebrews 13:8).

the key question: “Who do you say that I am?” (Matthew 16:15). This is the most important question you will ever answer. If you do not answer it, or answer it incorrectly, you have made the biggest mistake anyone can make!

Fact Check, 36

~ Churches Are Safe ~

People Think  ~  You can trust people at church.

God Answers  ~  “Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil walks about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour” (1 Peter 5:8).

For such are false apostles, deceitful workers, transforming themselves into apostles of Christ.  And no wonder!  For Satan himself transforms himself into an angel of light.  Therefore it is no great thing if his ministers also transform themselves into ministers of righteousness, whose end will be according to their works” (2 Corinthians 11:13-15).

Jesus said, “Behold, I send you out as sheep in the midst of wolves.  Therefore be wise as serpents and harmless as doves.  But beware of men, for they will deliver you up to councils and scourge you in their synagogues” (Matthew 10:16-17).

Comment  ~  This certainly should be true—unfortunately it is not true.  Even pastors and leaders are born sinners who are not yet fully Christ-like.  Additionally, not everyone who attends church has the best intentions.

The Significance  ~  Don’t ever put so much faith in your pastor or your minister that should they fail (they are still sinners here on earth) that it would shatter your faith in God.

Fear God, 102

~ Those Who Fear God Obey God ~

God does not want His children living in fear.  “Grace and peace be multiplied to you in the knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord, as His divine power has given to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of Him who called us by glory and virtue” (2 Peter 1:2-3).  However, God does want His children to have a proper respect and reverence for Him.  We are told in many places in Scripture to “fear God.”

This Week’s Passage  ~  Blessed is every one who fears the Lord, who walks in His ways” (Psalm 128:1).

Fearing God Results in Salvation  ~  It is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God” (Hebrews 10:31).  A wise person fears and departs from evil, but a fool rages and is self-confident” (Proverbs 14:16).  This does not mean the Christian is to live a fearful life—but a life which reverences God and seeks to do His will.

Fearing God Results in Fearlessness  ~  “The Lord is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear?  The Lord is the strength of my life; of whom shall I be afraid?” (Psalm 27:1).  The answer is: only God.  With the gift of salvation comes responsibility.

Fearing God Results in Witnessing  ~  “Come and hear, all you who fear God, and I will declare what He has done for my soul” (Psalm 66:16).

NOTE:  During 2018 we will interrupt this “Fear God” series with a “Learn from Gideon” 52-week series.

3 Certifications

~ Divine “Seals of Approval” ~

The Father’s Certification Of The Son  ~  “While he was still speaking, behold, a bright cloud overshadowed them; and suddenly a voice came out of the cloud, saying, ‘This is My beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased. Hear Him!’” (Matthew 17:5).

The Spirit’s Certification Of The Christian  ~  “In Him also we have obtained an inheritance, being predestined according to the purpose of Him who works all things according to the counsel of His will, that we who first trusted in Christ should be to the praise of His glory.  In Him you also trusted, after you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation; in whom also, having believed, you were sealed with the Holy Spirit of promise, who is the guarantee of our inheritance until the redemption of the purchased possession, to the praise of His glory” (Ephesians 1:11-14).

The Christian’s Certification Of The Word  ~  He who has received His testimony has certified that God is true” (John 3:33).
