~ The Facts of the Atonement of Christ
for Your Sins ~
Atonement Was Made On The Cross
~ “So
when Jesus had received the sour wine, He said, ‘It is finished!’ And bowing
His head, He gave up His spirit” (John 19:30). “But one of the soldiers pierced His side with a spear, and
immediately blood and water came out. And he who has seen has testified, and
his testimony is true; and he knows that he is telling the truth, so that you
may believe. For
these things were done that the Scripture should be fulfilled, ‘Not one of His
bones shall be broken’” (John 19:34-36).
“But
Christ came as High Priest of the good things to come, with the greater and more perfect
tabernacle not made with hands, that is, not of this creation. Not
with the blood of goats and calves, but with His own blood He entered the Most
Holy Place once for all, having obtained eternal redemption. For if the blood of bulls and goats and the
ashes of a heifer, sprinkling the unclean, sanctifies for the purifying of the
flesh, how much more shall the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit
offered Himself without spot to God, cleanse your conscience from dead works to
serve the living God? And for this
reason He is the Mediator of the new covenant, by means of death, for the
redemption of the transgressions under the first covenant, that those who are
called may receive the promise of the eternal inheritance” (Hebrews
9:11-15).
Atonement Was Accepted In Heaven ~ “Seeing then that we have a great High Priest who has passed
through the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast our confession” (Hebrews
4:14). “For Christ has not entered the holy places
made with hands, which are copies of the true, but into heaven itself, now to
appear in the presence of God for us” (Hebrews 9:24). “But this Man, after He had offered one
sacrifice for sins forever, sat down at the right hand of God” (Hebrews
10:12).
Atonement Was Verified By
The Resurrection ~ “Now when they had fulfilled all that was
written concerning Him, they took Him down from the tree and laid Him in a
tomb. But God raised Him from the dead”
(Acts 13:29-30). “It shall be imputed to us
who believe in Him who raised up Jesus our Lord from the dead, who was
delivered up because of our offenses, and was raised because of our
justification” (Romans 4:24b-25).
Atonement
Was Witnessed By The Spirit
of God ~ “And we are His witnesses to these things, and
so also is the Holy Spirit whom God has given to those who obey Him” (Acts
5:32). “But this Man, after He had
offered one sacrifice for sins forever, sat down at the right hand of God, from
that time waiting till His enemies are made His footstool. For by one offering He has perfected forever
those who are being sanctified. But the
Holy Spirit also witnesses to us; for after He had said before, ‘This is the
covenant that I will make with them after those days, says the Lord: I will put My laws into their
hearts, and in their minds I will write them,’ then He adds, ‘Their sins and their lawless deeds I will remember
no more.’ Now where there is remission
of these, there is no longer an offering for sin” (Hebrews
10:12-18).
Atonement Is Proclaimed By The Gospel
~ “For
I delivered to you first of all that which I also received: that Christ died
for our sins according to the Scriptures” (1
Corinthians 15:3). “To Him all
the prophets witness that, through His name, whoever believes in Him will
receive remission of sins” (Acts 10:43).
“Therefore let it be known to you,
brethren, that through this Man is preached to you the forgiveness of sins; and
by Him everyone who believes is justified from all things from which you could
not be justified by the law of Moses” (Acts 13:38-39).
Atonement Is Relied Upon By The
Christian ~ “But now the righteousness of God apart from the law is
revealed, being witnessed by the Law and the Prophets, even the righteousness
of God, through faith in Jesus Christ, to all and on all who believe. For there is no difference; for all have sinned and
fall short of the glory of God, being justified freely by His grace
through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus, whom God set forth as a
propitiation by His blood, through faith, to demonstrate His righteousness,
because in His forbearance God had passed over the sins that were previously
committed, to demonstrate at the present time His righteousness, that He might
be just and the Justifier of the one who has faith in Jesus” (Romans
3:21-26). “Therefore, having been justified by faith,
we have peace with God through our
Lord Jesus Christ” (Romans 5:1).
