Grace—Progress, 2of4

~ Three Stages of Grace in One Passage ~

The Salvation Grace Brings Us  ~  “For the grace of God that brings salvation has appeared to all men…” (Titus 2:11).

The Lessons Grace Teaches Us  ~  “…teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly in the present age…” (Titus 2:12).

The Hope Grace Gives Us  ~  “…looking for the blessed hope and glorious appearing of our great God and Savior Jesus Christ, who gave Himself for us, that He might redeem us from every lawless deed and purify for Himself His own special people, zealous for good works” (Titus 2:13-14).

Summary  ~  Salvation comes first by grace through faith (Ephesians 2:8).  Second is instruction teaching us how to live God-like lives.  Finally, we wait the consummation of the full measure of grace in glory with God forever.

Grace—Progress, 1of4

~ 3 Stages of Grace ~

Saved By Grace (power in salvation)  ~  “For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, not of works, lest anyone should boast.  For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them” (Ephesians 2:8-10).

Standing In Grace (position of the saved)  ~  “Having been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom also we have access by faith into this grace in which we stand, and rejoice in hope of the glory of God”(Romans 5:1-2).

Growing In Grace (progress of the saved)  ~  “You therefore, beloved, since you know this beforehand, beware lest you also fall from your own steadfastness, being led away with the error of the wicked; but grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.  To Him be the glory both now and forever.  Amen” (2 Peter 3:17-18).

Summary  ~  Salvation is the first stage—there can be no spiritual growth until this point.  The second stage is a new position—no longer under the law but under grace.  Finally, spiritual growth is the normal progression—evidence of spiritual reality becomes evident.

All By Grace

~ 7 S Overview of God’s Grace ~

Sanctifying Grace  ~  When he came and had seen the grace of God, he was glad, and encouraged them all that with purpose of heart they should continue [progress] with the Lord” (Acts 11:23).

Strengthening Grace  ~  “And Jesus said to me, ‘My grace is sufficient for you, for My strength is made perfect in weakness.’  Therefore most gladly I will rather boast in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me” (2 Corinthians 12:9).

Sustaining Grace  ~  “And God is able to make all grace abound toward you, that you, always having all sufficiency in all things, may have an abundance for every good work” (2 Corinthians 9:8).

Stabilizing Grace  ~  Do not be carried about with various and strange doctrines.  For it is good that the heart be established by grace, not with foods which have not profited those who have been occupied with them” (Hebrews 13:9).

Serving Grace  ~  “But by the grace of God I am what I am, and His grace toward me was not in vain; but I labored more abundantly than they all, yet not I, but the grace of God which was with me” (1 Corinthians 15:10).

Supplying Grace  ~  And of His fullness we have all received, and grace for grace.  For the law was given through Moses, but grace and truth came through Jesus Christ” (John 1:16-17).

Saving Grace  ~  Nevertheless, brethren, I have written more boldly to you on some points, as reminding you, because of the grace given to me by God, that I might be a minister of Jesus Christ to the Gentiles, ministering the gospel of God, that the offering of the Gentiles might be acceptable, sanctified by the Holy Spirit.  Therefore I have reason to glory in Christ Jesus in the things which pertain to God.  For I will not dare to speak of any of those things which Christ has not accomplished through me, in word and deed, to make the Gentiles obedient — in mighty signs and wonders, by the power of the Spirit of God, so that from Jerusalem and round about to Illyricum I have fully preached the gospel of Christ.  And so I have made it my aim to preach the gospel, not where Christ was named, lest I should build on another man's foundation, but as it is written: ‘To whom He was not announced, they shall see; and those who have not heard shall understand’” (Romans 15:15-21).

Summary (conclusion)  ~  “God is able to make all grace abound toward you, that you, always having all sufficiency in all things, may have an abundance for every good work” (2 Corinthians 9:8).
