Christ Did

~ What Has Christ Done? ~

A Key Passage  ~  Jesus said, “This is eternal life, that they may know You, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom You have sent.  I have glorified You on the earth.  I have finished the work which You have given Me to do.  And now, O Father, glorify Me together with Yourself, with the glory which I had with You before the world was.  I have manifested Your name to the men whom You have given Me out of the world.  They were Yours, You gave them to Me, and they have kept Your word.  Now they have known that all things which You have given Me are from You.  For I have given to them the words which You have given Me; and they have received them, and have known surely that I came forth from You; and they have believed that You sent Me.   I pray for them [not just past tense but continuously].  I do not pray for the world but for those whom You have given Me, for they are Yours” (John 17:3-9).

Comment  ~  Obviously, each of the five items listed in the passage above could be unpacked to a very large degree.  Consider as just one example all the miracles which Jesus Christ did while on earth.  The best summary of the accomplishments of Jesus Christ—The Messiah—is succinctly stated:  “When Jesus had received the sour wine, He said, ‘It is finished! And bowing His head, He gave up His spirit” (John 19:30).

The Key (not to be missed)  ~  When our Savior said “It is finished!” the work of salvation was complete.  It was and is DONE for all time.  All other religions are a matter of human works of DO whereas Christians are able to have peace and confidence because it is DONE.  Jesus said, “Peace I leave with you, My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you.  Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.  You have heard Me say to you, ‘I am going away and coming back to you.’  If you loved Me, you would rejoice because I said, ‘I am going to the Father,’ for My Father is greater than I” (John 14:27-28).

Fact Check, 7

~ Confused ~

Your Thinking  ~  I can’t figure it out.

God’s Answer  ~  “Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct your paths” (Proverbs 3:5-6).

For You will light my lamp; the Lord my God will enlighten my darkness” (Psalm 18:28).
Your Word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path” (Psalm 119:105).

Jesus said, “Now when they bring you to the synagogues and magistrates and authorities, do not worry about how or what you should answer, or what you should say.  For the Holy Spirit will teach you in that very hour what you ought to say” (Luke 12:11-12).

Fear God, 73

~ Angels Protect Those Who Fear God ~

God does not want His children living in fear.  “Grace and peace be multiplied to you in the knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord, as His divine power has given to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of Him who called us by glory and virtue” (2 Peter 1:2-3).  However, God does want His children to have a proper respect and reverence for Him.  We are told in many places in Scripture to “fear God.”

This Week’s Passage  ~  I sought the Lord, and He heard me, and delivered me from all my fears.  They looked to Him and were radiant, and their faces were not ashamed.  This poor man cried out, and the Lord heard him, and saved him out of all his troubles.  The angel of the Lord encamps all around those who fear Him, and delivers them” (Psalm 34:4-7).

Fearing God Results in Salvation  ~  It is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God” (Hebrews 10:31).  A wise person fears and departs from evil, but a fool rages and is self-confident” (Proverbs 14:16).  This does not mean the Christian is to live a fearful life—but a life which reverences God and seeks to do His will.

Fearing God Results in Fearlessness  ~  “The Lord is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear?  The Lord is the strength of my life; of whom shall I be afraid?” (Psalm 27:1).  The answer is: only God.  With the gift of salvation comes responsibility.

Fearing God Results in Witnessing  ~  “Come and hear, all you who fear God, and I will declare what He has done for my soul” (Psalm 66:16).
