Identity in Christ, 160

~ I Am a Saint, 12 ~

Introduction  ~  When Christians understand the various characteristics and aspects of the birthright which came with their second birth, they comprehend their identity in Christ.  Once Christians understand their identity, their destiny is also clear!  This series of “Abundant Life Now” posts will look at one of those facets each week.

This Week’s Verse  ~  “Now when He had taken the scroll, the four living creatures and the twenty-four elders fell down before the Lamb, each having a harp, and golden bowls full of incense, which are the prayers of the saints.  And they sang a new song, saying:
‘You are worthy to take the scroll, and to open its seals; for You were slain, and have redeemed us to God by Your blood out of every tribe and tongue and people and nation, and have made us kings and priests to our God; and we shall reign on the earth’” (Revelation 5:8-10).

~~~ EXPLANATORY “IDENTITY IN CHRIST” NOTES ~~~
(1)  Each Monday ALN posts an example of Scripture’s description of aspects/characteristics of Christians—those who have personally trusted in Jesus Christ, The Messiah, as their personal Savior.
(2)  This series is not intended to be an exhaustive list.
(3)  God the Father described Himself to Moses as the great “I AM” (Exodus 3:14).  God the Son also said “I AM” (John 8:58).
(4)  Jesus Christ is the Son of God and several times in the Gospel of John He refers to Himself as “I am.  I am the Bread of Life” (6:35-51), “I am the Light of the World” (8:12, 9:5), “I am the Door” (10:7-9), “I am the Good Shepherd” (10:11-14), “I am the Son of God” (10:36), “I am the Resurrection and the Life” (11:25), “I am the Way, the Truth, and the Life” (14:6), “I am in the Father, and the Father in Me … Believe Me that I am in the Father and the Father in Me” (John 14:10-11), and “I am the True Vine” (15:1-5).
(5)  Individual Christians are also sons and daughters of God.  This series will show some of the various “I am” aspects of a Christian.
Jesus Is…, 25
~ Jesus Christ Is The Last ~
Passages  ~  “And when I [John] saw Him, I fell at His feet as dead.  But He laid His right hand on me, saying to me, ‘Do not be afraid; I am the First and the Last.  I am He who lives, and was dead, and behold, I am alive forevermore.  Amen.  And I have the keys of Hades and of Death’” (Revelation 1:17-18).
Jesus said, "And to the angel of the church in Smyrna write, ‘These things says the First and the Last, who was dead, and came to life’” (Revelation 2:8).
Jesus also said, “Behold, I am coming quickly, and My reward is with Me, to give to every one according to his work.  I am the Alpha and the Omega [first and last letter of the Greek alphabet, i.e., the A and the Z], the Beginning and the End, the First and the Last’” (Revelation 22:12-13).
Significance  ~  “Jesus said to Thomas, ‘I am the way, the truth, and the life.  No one comes to the Father except through Me’” (John 14:6).  Because He is absolute truth He will have the final word in all things including judgment.  “Now Enoch, the seventh from Adam, prophesied about these men also, saying, ‘Behold, the Lord comes with ten thousands of His saints, to execute judgment on all, to convict all who are ungodly among them of all their ungodly deeds which they have committed in an ungodly way, and of all the harsh things which ungodly sinners have spoken against Him’” (Jude 14-15).
Comment  ~  Do you know personally the One who Is Truth?
the key question:  “Who do you say that I am?” (Matthew 16:15).  This is the most important question you will ever answer.  If you do not answer it, or answer it incorrectly, you have made the biggest mistake anyone can make!
Fact Check, 44
~ Christians Don’t Enjoy Life ~
People Think  ~  Once you become a Christian you live a dull life.
God Answers  ~  Jesus said, “I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly” (John 10:10b).
Jesus also said, “These things I have spoken to you, that My joy may remain in you, and that your joy may be full” (John 15:11).
The Apostle John wrote: “That which we have seen and heard we declare to you, that you also may have fellowship with us; and truly our fellowship is with the Father and with His Son Jesus Christ.  And these things we write to you that your joy may be full” (1 John 1:3-4).
The Significance  ~  God has given all things on earth to be enjoyed by mankind.
Comment  ~  The key is not holding on to the material things of earth tightly—we should use and benefit from what God has provided but never worship anything but God.
“Now godliness with contentment is great gain.  For we brought nothing into this world, and it is certain we can carry nothing out.  And having food and clothing, with these we shall be content.  But those who desire to be rich fall into temptation and a snare, and into many foolish and harmful lusts which drown men in destruction and perdition.  For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil, for which some have strayed from the faith in their greediness, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows” (1 Timothy 6:6-10).
Job was a good example in this regard: “Then Job arose, tore his robe, and shaved his head; and he fell to the ground and worshiped, and he said: ‘Naked I came from my mother's womb, and naked shall I return there.  The Lord gave, and the Lord has taken away; blessed be the name of the Lord.’  In all this Job did not sin nor charge God with wrong” (Job 1:20-22).
