~ Do Not Be A Thief ~
Key Passage
~ Jesus said, “Do not think that
I came to destroy the Law or the Prophets.
I did not come to destroy but to fulfill” (Matthew 5:17).
Old Testament Command (#8) ~ “You
shall not steal” (Exodus 20:15).
“You shall
not steal” (Deuteronomy 5:19).
New Testament Responsibility
~ Jesus said, “You have heard
that it was said, ‘An eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth.’ But I tell you not to resist an evil
person. But whoever slaps you on your
right cheek, turn the other to him also.
If anyone wants to sue you and take away your tunic, let him have your
cloak also. And whoever compels you to
go one mile, go with him two. Give to
him who asks you, and from him who wants to borrow from you do not turn away” (Matthew
5:38-42).
Additional Passage
~ “Jesus said to him, ‘You shall love the Lord your God with all
your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind.’ This is the first and great commandment. And the second is like it: ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’ On
these two commandments hang all the Law and the Prophets” (Matthew 22:37-40).
Comment ~ Stealing can occur in many subtle ways—such
as taking credit for someone else’s ideas, or unproductive time for your
employer. How about the area of giving
back to God a suitable portion of what He has given you?
