The Purpose of Divine Fellowship ~
Introduction
~ The Christian who is “walking
worthy of his calling” (1 Thessalonians 1:11-12) is in fellowship with all
three members of the Godhead and with other believers.
Fellowship With The Father (for will and purpose)
~ “This is the message which we
have heard from Him and declare to you, that God is light and in Him is
no darkness at all. If we say that we
have fellowship with Him, and walk in darkness, we lie and do not practice
the truth. But if we walk in the light
as He is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus
Christ His Son cleanses us from all sin” (1 John 1:5-7).
Fellowship With The Son (for walk and practice) ~ “I
thank my God always concerning you for the grace of God which was given to you by
Christ Jesus, that you were enriched in everything by Him in all utterance
and all knowledge, even as the testimony of Christ was confirmed in you, so
that you come short in no gift, eagerly waiting for the revelation of our
Lord Jesus Christ, who will also confirm you to the end, that you may be
blameless in the day of our Lord Jesus Christ. God is faithful, by whom you were called into the
fellowship of His Son, Jesus Christ our Lord” (1 Corinthians 1:4-9).
Fellowship With The Spirit (for witness and power)
~ “Finally, brethren, farewell. Become complete. Be of good comfort, be of one mind, live in
peace; and the God of love and peace will be with you. Greet one another with a holy kiss. All the saints greet you. The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, and the
love of God, and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with you all. Amen” (2 Corinthians 13:11-14).
Fellowship With The Saints (for word and perseverance)
~ Clearly, the obedient Christian is in
fellowship with all three members of the Trinity as well as in fellowship with other
Christians. “And with many other words
he testified and exhorted them, saying, ‘Be saved from this perverse
generation.’ Then those who gladly
received his word were baptized; and that day about three thousand souls were
added to them. And they continued
steadfastly in the apostles’ doctrine and fellowship [with their brothers and
sisters in Christ], in the breaking of bread, and in prayers” (Acts 2:40-42).
