~ 3 Key Responsibilities of Godly Stewardship ~

 

Work For His Name  ~  “Beloved, you do faithfully whatever you do for the brethren and for strangers, who have borne witness of your love before the church.  If you send them forward on their journey in a manner worthy of God, you will do well, because they went forth for His name’s sake, taking nothing from the Gentiles.  We therefore ought to receive such, that we may become fellow workers for the truth” (3 John 5-8).

 

Witness About His Truth  ~  “And He said to them, ‘It is not for you to know times or seasons which the Father has put in His own authority.  But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be witnesses to Me in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth’” (Acts 1:7-8).

 

Watch For His Coming  ~  “But of that day and hour no one knows, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father.  Take heed, watch and pray; for you do not know when the time is.  It is like a man going to a far country, who left his house and gave authority to his servants, and to each his work, and commanded the doorkeeper to watch.  Watch therefore, for you do not know when the master of the house is coming—in the evening, at midnight, at the crowing of the rooster, or in the morning—lest, coming suddenly, he find you sleeping.  And what I say to you, I say to all: Watch!” (Mark 13:32-37).

Sabbath, 8of9

~ The Disciples Worshipped God On The First Day Of The Week ~

 

Introduction  ~  In the Old Testament the Sabbath was established as part of The Law.  The Sabbath is observed from sundown Friday evening through sundown Saturday evening.  In the New Testament the law of God is written on believers’ hearts (Romans 2:12-16) rather than on tablets of stone.  It is the heart’s attitude which now supersedes outward obedience (Romans 10:10).  Following Christ’s resurrection, which occurred on the first day of the week, the Disciples and later the Church have observed their day of rest on Sunday in remembrance of Christ’s resurrection (Acts 20:7).

 

Passage  ~  “Now on the first day of the week, when the disciples came together to break bread, Paul, ready to depart the next day, spoke to them and continued his message until midnight.  There were many lamps in the upper room where they were gathered together.  And in a window sat a certain young man named Eutychus, who was sinking into a deep sleep.  He was overcome by sleep; and as Paul continued speaking, he fell down from the third story and was taken up dead.  But Paul went down, fell on him, and embracing him said, ‘Do not trouble yourselves, for his life is in him.’  Now when he had come up, had broken bread and eaten, and talked a long while, even till daybreak, he departed.  And they brought the young man in alive, and they were not a little comforted” (Acts 20:7-12).

 

Comment  ~  The Disciples maintained the concept of a weekly day set apart to contemplate God.  In honor of the resurrection of Jesus Christ on the first day of the week they chose to honor God on Sunday to focus on God as in the past but even more importantly the finished work of redemption by the Son of God in conquering death and rising on the first day of the week. 

 

“And if Christ is not risen, then our preaching is empty and your faith is also empty.  Yes, and we are found false witnesses of God, because we have testified of God that He raised up Christ, whom He did not raise up — if in fact the dead do not rise.  For if the dead do not rise, then Christ is not risen.  And if Christ is not risen, your faith is futile; you are still in your sins!  Then also those who have fallen asleep in Christ have perished.  If in this life only we have hope in Christ, we are of all men the most pitiable” (1 Corinthians 15:14-19).

God Attribute, 177

 

~ Relationship ~

 

This Series ~ This series of posts looks at some of the many attributes of God. Generally, we move in alphabetical order.

 

Introduction ~ The topic of relationship is at the heart of the difference between Christianity and all other religions. All other religions are based upon requirements that are you must do in order to be in good standing. On the other hand, Christianity is based on what has been done for you by Jesus Christ on the Cross of Calvary.

 

“It is finished!” (John 19:30).

 

The risen Christ is anxious to have a personal relationship with you (and with every Christian, everywhere).

 

Scripture ~ Relationship with God is seen in the Old Testament: “The Lord spoke to Moses face to face, as a man speaks to his friend” (Exodus 33:11).

 

However, the individual-God relationship in the New Testament is more profound:

 

“Therefore, brethren, having boldness to enter the Holiest by the blood of Jesus, by a new and living way which He consecrated for us, through the veil, that is, His flesh, and having a High Priest over the house of God, let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled from an evil conscience and our bodies washed with pure water. Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for He who promised is faithful” (Hebrews 10:19-23).

 

Your personal friend, the Son of God is currently your lawyer defending you before God the Father: “My little children, these things I write to you, so that you may not sin. And if anyone sins, we have an Advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous. And He Himself is the propitiation for our sins, and not for ours only but also for the whole world” (1 John 2:1-2).

 

Comment ~ The Son of God desires an intimate relationship with you. “Draw near to God and He will draw near to you” (James 4:8).

 

Suggestion ~ If you do not have a personal relationship with God – and are either wondering about this post, or desire to have a personal relationship with God, why not conduct your own investigation and experiment? There are three easy steps.

 

1^st Will you admit that it is possible that there really is a Creator-God?

 

2^nd Will you with a truly open mind make a simple request? Something like a simple prayer such as:  

 

“God if You are real, will You show me in no uncertain terms that You truly do exist and are the Creator, and that You want a relationship with me (no matter my past)?  …  That I can actually have a personal relationship with You?”

 

3^rd Will you remain open to what is revealed to you?

 

I know that if you are sincere in that request God will reveal Himself to you.
