Living Water

~ Living Water Flows Both In and Out ~

Living Water Flowing In (a well)  ~  “Jesus answered and said to her, ‘If you knew the gift of God, and who it is who says to you, “Give Me a drink,” you would have asked Him, and He would have given you living water.’  The woman said to Him, ‘Sir, You have nothing to draw with, and the well is deep.  Where then do You get that living water?  Are You greater than our father Jacob, who gave us the well, and drank from it himself, as well as his sons and his livestock?’  Jesus answered and said to her, ‘Whoever drinks of this water will thirst again, but whoever drinks of the water that I shall give him will never thirst.  But the water that I shall give him will become in him a fountain of water springing up into everlasting life.’  The woman said to Him, ‘Sir, give me this water, that I may not thirst, nor come here to draw’” (John 4:10-15).

Jesus said, “The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy.  I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly” (John 10:10).

Living Water Flowing Out (a river)  ~  “On the last day, that great day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried out, saying, ‘If anyone thirsts, let him come to Me and drink.  He who believes in Me, as the Scripture has said, out of his heart will flow rivers of living water.’  But this He spoke concerning the Spirit, whom those believing in Him would receive; for the Holy Spirit was not yet given, because Jesus was not yet glorified” (John 7:37-39).

“Therefore He who supplies the Spirit to you and works miracles among you, does He do it by the works of the law, or by the hearing of faith? — Just as Abraham ‘believed God, and it was accounted to him for righteousness.’  Therefore know that only those who are of faith are sons of Abraham.  And the Scripture, foreseeing that God would justify the Gentiles by faith, preached the gospel to Abraham beforehand, saying, ‘In you all the nations shall be blessed.’  So then those who are of faith are blessed with believing Abraham” (Galatians 3:5-9).

Living Christians

~ The Living God Breathes Spiritual Life Into His Children ~

Living Stones  ~  “Therefore, laying aside all malice, all deceit, hypocrisy, envy, and all evil speaking, as newborn babes, desire the pure milk of the word, that you may grow thereby, if indeed you have tasted that the Lord is gracious.  Coming to Him as to a Living Stone, rejected indeed by men, but chosen by God and precious, you also, as living stones, are being built up a spiritual house, a holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ” (1 Peter 2:1-5).

Alive in Christ  ~  “There is a nice symmetry in this:  Death initially came by a man, and resurrection from death came by a Man.  Everybody dies in Adam; everybody [all believers] comes alive in Christ.  But we have to wait our turn:  Christ is first, then those with Him at His Coming, the grand consummation when, after crushing the opposition, He hands over His kingdom to God the Father.  He won’t let up until the last enemy is down — and the very last enemy is death!” (1 Corinthians 15:21-26, The Message).

You who have been demanding proof that Christ speaks through me will get more than you bargained for.  You’ll get the full force of Christ, don’t think you won’t.  He was sheer weakness and humiliation when He was killed on the Cross, but oh, He’s alive now — in the mighty power of God!  We weren’t much to look at, either, when we were humiliated among you, but when we deal with you this next time, we’ll be alive in Christ, strengthened by God” (2 Corinthians 13:3-4, The Message).

“It’s a wonder God didn’t lose His temper and do away with the whole lot of us.  Instead, immense in mercy and with an incredible love, He embraced us.  He took our sin-dead lives and made us alive in Christ.  He did all this on His own, with no help from us!  Then He picked us up and set us down in highest heaven in company with Jesus, our Messiah” (Ephesians 2:3-6, The Message).

Living God

~ Only Christianity Serves a Living God! ~

The Living God (our trust)  ~  “Bodily exercise profits a little, but godliness is profitable for all things, having promise of the life that now is and of that which is to come.  This is a faithful saying and worthy of all acceptance.  For to this end we both labor and suffer reproach, because we trust in the living God, who is the Savior of all men, especially of those who believe.  These things command and teach” (1 Timothy 4:8-11).

The Living Christ (our foundation)  ~  “Therefore, laying aside all malice, all deceit, hypocrisy, envy, and all evil speaking, as newborn babes, desire the pure milk of the word, that you may grow thereby, if indeed you have tasted that the Lord is gracious.

The Living Spirit (our refreshment)  ~  “Jesus answered and said to her, ‘If you knew the gift of God, and who it is who says to you, “Give Me a drink,” you would have asked Him, and He would have given you living water.’  The woman said to Him, ‘Sir, You have nothing to draw with, and the well is deep.

The Living Way (our access)  ~  “Therefore, brethren, having boldness to enter the Holiest by the blood of Jesus, by a new and living way which He consecrated for us, through the veil, that is, His flesh, and having a High Priest over the house of God, let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled from an evil conscience and our bodies washed with pure water.  Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for He who promised is faithful.  And let us consider one another in order to stir up love and good works, not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as is the manner of some, but exhorting one another, and so much the more as you see the Day approaching” (Hebrews 10:19-25).

The Living Hope (our expectation)  ~  “Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who according to His abundant mercy has begotten us again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, to an inheritance incorruptible and undefiled and that does not fade away, reserved in heaven for you, who are kept by the power of God through faith for salvation ready to be revealed in the last time” (1 Peter 1:3-5).
