Jesus Christ Our Savior ~
A Savior Promised
~ “‘And
it will be for a sign and for a witness to the Lord
of hosts in the land of Egypt; for they will cry to the Lord because of the oppressors, and He will send them a
Savior and a Mighty One, and He will deliver them” (Isaiah 19:20). “Behold, I send My
messenger, and he will prepare the way before
Me. And
the Lord, whom you seek, will suddenly come to
His temple, even the Messenger of the
covenant, in whom you delight. Behold, He is
coming,’ says the Lord of hosts” (Malachi 3:1). “The Lord
your God will raise up for you a Prophet like me from your midst, from
your brethren” (Deuteronomy 18:15a).
A Savior Born
~ “Then
the angel said to them, ‘Do not be afraid, for behold, I bring you good tidings
of great joy which will be to all people.
For there is born to you this day in the city of David a Savior, who is
Christ the Lord’” (Luke 2:10-11).
“Now after Jesus was born in Bethlehem of
Judea in the days of Herod the king, behold, wise men from the East came to
Jerusalem, saying, ‘Where is He who has been born King of the Jews? For we have seen His star in the East and have
come to worship Him’” (Matthew 2:1-2).
A Savior Among Us
~ “And
we have seen and testify that the Father has sent the Son as Savior of the
world” (1 John 4:14). Jesus said, “For God [His Father] so loved the world
that He gave His only begotten Son [Jesus Christ], that whoever believes in Him
should not perish but have everlasting life.
For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but
that the world through Him might be saved” (John 3:16-17).
A Savior Received
~ “He
[Jesus Christ] was in the world, and the world was made through Him, and the
world did not know Him. He came to His own, and His own did not receive Him. But as
many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, to
those who believe in His name: who were born, not of blood, nor of the will of
the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God” (John 1:10-13). “And with many other
words he [Peter] testified and exhorted them, saying, ‘Be saved from this
perverse generation.’ Then those who gladly received his word were baptized; and
that day about three thousand souls were added to them. And they continued steadfastly in the
apostles’ doctrine and fellowship, in the breaking of bread, and in prayers”
(Acts 2:40-42).
A Savior Rejected
~ “He
[Jesus Christ] was in the world, and the world was made through Him, and the
world did not know Him. He came to His
own, and His own did not receive Him” (John 1:10-11). Jesus said, “And if anyone hears My words and does not
believe, I do not judge him; for I did not come to judge the world but to save
the world. He who rejects Me, and does
not receive My words, has that which judges him — the word that I have spoken
will judge him in the last day. For I
have not spoken on My own authority; but the Father who sent Me gave Me a
command, what I should say and what I should speak” (John 12:47-49). “So all those in the synagogue, when they
heard these things, were filled with wrath, and rose up and thrust Him out of
the city; and they led Him to the brow of the hill on which their city was
built, that they might throw Him down over the cliff. Then passing through the midst of them, He
went His way” (Luke 4:28-30).
Someone has summarized it this
way...
God Sent Us a Savior.
If our greatest need had been information, God would have sent us an educator.
If our greatest need had been information, God would have sent us an educator.
If our greatest need had been technology, God would have sent us a scientist.
If our greatest need had been money, God would have sent us an economist.
If our greatest need had been pleasure, God would have sent us an entertainer.
But our greatest need was forgiveness, so God sent us a Savior.
the key question:
“Who do you say that I am?” (Matthew 16:15). This is the most important
question you will ever answer. If you do not answer it, or answer it incorrectly,
you have made the biggest mistake anyone can make!
