~ Common But Not Ordinary ~
Christians
have a unity with each other, or a common interest, because of Jesus Christ in
many ways. Consider a few of the things we have in common.
Common Life
~ Christians are partakers of Him
in one common life. “But God, who is rich in mercy,
because of His great love with which He loved us, even when we were dead in
trespasses, made us alive together with
Christ (by grace you have been saved)” (Ephesians
2:4-5).
Common Interest
~ Christians possess a common
interest because of His atonement for their sins. “He
has delivered us from the power of darkness and conveyed us into the kingdom of
the Son of His love, in whom we have
redemption through His blood, the
forgiveness of sins” (Colossians 1:13-14).
Common Salvation
~ Christians have been saved by
Christ through a common salvation. “Beloved, while I
was very diligent to write to you concerning our common salvation” (Jude 3a).
Common Father
~ Christian are related to one
another through their one common Father. “For you are all sons of God through faith in
Christ Jesus” (Galatians 3:26).
Common Flock
~ Christians
are all part of the same flock of sheep with Christ as their common Shepherd. “As
the Father knows Me, even so I know the Father; and I lay down My life for the
sheep. And other sheep I have which are not of this fold; them also I must
bring, and they will hear My voice; and there will be one flock and one shepherd” (John
10:15-16).
Common Temple
~ Christians
are in the process of building in Him one common temple. “You also, as living stones, are being built up a spiritual house, a
holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through
Jesus Christ. Therefore it is also
contained in the Scripture, ‘Behold, I lay in Zion a chief cornerstone, elect,
precious, and he who believes on Him will by no means be put to shame.’ Therefore, to you who believe, He is
precious; but to those who are disobedient,
‘The stone which the builders rejected has become the chief cornerstone’” (1
Peter 2:5-7).
Common Resource ~
Christians draw their sustenance from the same resource. “I am the vine,
you are the branches. He who abides
in Me, and I in him, bears much fruit; for without Me you can do nothing” (John
15:5).
Common Glory
~ Christians
share with one another a common glory. “Father, I desire that they also whom
You gave Me may be with Me where I am, that
they may behold My glory which You have given Me; for You loved Me before
the foundation of the world” (John 17:24).
How about
you? Do you have some favorite commonalities with all Christians which you
would like to add?
