~ The “Praise Him” Psalm ~
The classic
reporting facts of who, what, where,
when, why, and how are all
presented in the summation of the Book of Psalms.
What (the subject) ~ Praise the Lord!
[This
is the introduction of the subject of this last song of the book.]
Where ~
Praise God in His sanctuary;
Praise
Him in His mighty firmament!
[In
other words, praise Him everywhere you go!]
Why
~ Praise Him for His mighty
acts;
Praise
Him according to His excellent greatness!
[Praise
Him for both His actions and His character.]
How ~ Praise
Him with the sound of the trumpet;
Praise
Him with the lute and harp!
Praise
Him with the timbrel and dance;
Praise
Him with stringed instruments and flutes!
Praise
Him with loud cymbals;
Praise
Him with clashing cymbals!
[Praise
Him a wide variety of audible and public ways.]
Who ~ Let
everything that has breath praise the Lord.
[The
command to “praise Him” is for everyone.]
When (always) ~
Praise the Lord!
[The
song has made it clear that we are to always praise God.]
Psalm
150
context: In the opening chapter of
the Book of Psalms the reader is presented with the contrast between Godly person
and the unrighteous person. The body of the book presents life with its joys
and troubles. The book concludes with this command to praise God no matter what
you are facing or what circumstances you find yourself. It is interesting to
note that the word “praise” occurs three times in the opening verse and twice
in every other verse!
How
about you? Are you always praising God everywhere at all times for all
things?
